Several American foreign policy experts feel that Pakistan is most likely to become the next Al Qaeda stronghold.
In a joint survey carried out by the Foreign Policy magazine and the Centre for American Progress, 35 per cent of the experts opined that Pakistan has more chances than even Iraq to become the next Al Qaeda base.
In a chapter titled, “A Perfect Nightmare,” the respondents named Pakistan as the country where a “perfect terrorist storm” may be brewing. Check the survey done by Foreign Policy magazine.
A Perfect Nightmare
A perfect terrorist storm may be brewing in Pakistan. When asked to choose the nation that is most likely to become the next al Qaeda stronghold, more experts chose Pakistan than any other country, including Iraq. Osama bin Laden reportedly remains at large along Pakistan’s mountainous border with Afghanistan, where al Qaeda is also regrouping; the country’s intelligence service is said to be still cooperating with radical Islamist elements; and President Pervez Musharraf’s political future seems increasingly imperiled. These developments would not be as worrisome had the experts not also said that Pakistan is the country most likely to transfer nuclear technology to terrorists in the next three to five years. Together, it’s a terrifying combination.
But if there is a wide consensus about the dangers that Pakistan poses, there is very little agreement about what to do about it. A modest number of the index’s experts, fewer than 1 in 3, favors threatening Pakistan with sanctions. Yet about the same number support increasing U.S. aid to the country. Such a muddled response underscores the puzzle that Pakistan presents to American policymakers. What is clear is that the experts do not favor more of the same: More than half of those surveyed believe the current U.S. policy toward Pakistan is having a negative impact on U.S. national security. Getting the strategy right could be critical if the world is to keep those dark clouds from forming.
Re: Pakistan is most likely to become the next Al Qaeda stronghold.
I would think the percentage is higher than that..
You have senior people like ex-US general John Abizaid saying these things about Pak, the guy said it was a mistake to invade Iraq, they should have invaded Pakistan instead (for it's nuclear weapons and strategic importance?) and Saudi Arabia (for its vast oil resources?).
You have that kaalu senator Barack Obama spewing the same filth, they're all the same regardless of their ideologies and political affiliations..
Greedy bstrds want to turn our country into a lawless hellhole, they've done it to every other country they've gone into..
Re: Pakistan is most likely to become the next Al Qaeda stronghold.
Forget about what you think the guy is, but the kind of message being floated about Pakistan like, Alqaeda stronghold, nuclear weapons in hands of Alqaeda etc makes one wonder if ground is being prepared to take on Pakistan.

nothing can be ruled out. weve been off sanctions for a few years now, that initself cant go on forever. all the traps seem already laid, to be started by end of bush admin and then continued by clinton. pakistan at some point is likely to distance itself from the united states and thats when its likely to get squeezed
the worst one ive heard so far is 'pakistan is on course to handover nucleur technology to kayda within three to five years'
