Yeah. The upperclass brats (most of them)from the metropolitans of Pakistan are more "Ameriacnized" than the Americans themselves. And what's worse.....they r damn proud of it.
I'm not gonna say anything about India cuz it's not a Muslim state as Pakistan is. No arguements under this topic.
so what?these are the 90's.we arent in the dark ages.we're allowed to have fun.by the way that story is exagerated.nobody goes around firing at every tom dick and harry.its only when a serious fight breaks out that the firearms come out.teenagers in pakistan are as normal as everywhere else.we learn with time as we grow older.just because we are muslims living in a muslim country does not make us perfect human beings.

Ok so the so called gangster culture is gaining popularity in pakistan especially with filthy rich kids. I have witnessed Scenes very similar to these in all the University partys and jams in Canada. If desis over here can do it then why not the kids of Karachi. Are they somehow "different"?.

I dont agree with this assessment. We sit infront of the computer chating away or better taking part in the forums, isnt this Americanization too. You cannot just take positive aspects and leave everything else. It just doesnt happen.
I think the world is shrinking and so is our own culture. We'll just have to cling to our culture and values more strongly.

Where is this analogy coming from? So is talking on the phone, watching T.V., driving a car Americanization also?
I am trying to establish a link between our culture/morals and lifestyle. We walk around in WESTERN clothing, speak WESTERN language, bottom line is we are acquiring WESTERN way of life, which is the new way of life of the whole world. Now how can we expect our youth to adhere to our own home bred Eastern values. It doesnt happen, you can see it by urselves.
I am just against the labelling of americanized and westernized, since the people pointing fingers are themselves Americanized in all the ways that matter the most.

nope.these kids are normal.it's the media thats making them out to be a bunch of blood sucking animals.the bottom line is,kids in pakistan are as normal as other kids all over the world.which means they can be good and bad.everyone loves to write all sorts of filth on these kids because according to them they should not go to parties,sit at home and pray five times a day,not use the f-word,not watch english and indian movies,not get into fights with other kids,and eventually turn out to be mullahs.well,escuse me but thats a load of bullshit.

Equally interesting is how everyone jumps the guns. What everyone fails to acknowledge is that this (gangsta culture) only represents a minute percentage of Pakistani population. The majority of Pakistan is without safe drinking water, unreliable electric power supply, troubling illiteracy, broken or non-existent infrastructure, poor healthcare, corruption, nonexistence of nude beaches, the list can go on.
It is only a matter of time that this "drug and guns" culture will find its way out of Karachi and into Checho-ki-MalyaN, Sibi, Khan-poor, Manchester, Mailsee, Dera Ghazi Kahan, Tuba Taik Singh, and other small towns. Lets hope that this is contained where it is, and this social illness is treated with sound public policy, rather than relying on the "unseen" hand to come and cure the problem.
Education is the only way out!

Look, Pakistan cannot manufacture even the lathe machines on its own. We have to import all the things in the world right from needles to missiles. The whole world knows it! All the Ghauri & Shahin stuff is North Korean. Unless we try to live on our own without begging to China & US & hell lot of other nations for food, weapons & what not, we are not trully westernised.
Instead of calling war with India which will bring greatest losses to us rather than them, we should have friendly ties with them & get assistance from them. Remember its always better to ask our neighbours for help than to ask some colonialist western nations who have nothing to do with our progress.
I have a pen-friend in India & he tells me how they can manage to be self-sufficient more than we do! He tells me that in India, They don't have bad feelings for us. So why should we nourish the hate for them?
Westernisation can only be obtained through bettering the relations & not through wasting the money of both sides in war.

The real question in this particular thread was, the type of westernisation we seem to be headed for atm, is it healthy?
Seems like you do not know your history that well.
- 1948 - India attacked Pakistan.
- 1956 - India opened fire at innocent Kashmiri civilians fighting for their right of self determination and opened fire at Pakistani installations across the border, starting war.
- 1965 - Unprovoked attack on Pakistan.
- 1971 - Interference in Pakistani domestic affairs and inciting revolt in Bangladesh.
Errm, should we look towards this very nation for ‘help’ and friendship?
I’m sure your friend was stating his own personal feelings as from what I read in the papers (both Indian and Pakistani) the case seems to be that in India there is a sudden wave of muslim hatred and mass war hysteria. Whereas, the feelings here in Pakistan are restricted to the thoughts that Kashmiri’s should get their long denied right of self determination. A right which every human being was born with.
As for the self-sufficiency part, can you be more elaborate on that please? I see switzerland importing everything into their country and still they are viewed as a self sufficient country ?
By westernisation here, I will assume that you mean industrialization/modernization. Would you consider China a backward nation? If not, can you explain their not-so-good with the west (namely the US)?
