Pakistan: Iran & Saudi Arabia: Distinguishing True Friend

Recently lot of news is coming out regarding Pakistan sending its troops to Saudi Arabia for Yemen Border. Many people think that this is not right. But lets take a step back and see how these two countries have worked with Pakistan in past.
Pakistan nuclear test:
When many countries around the world put economic sanctions and trade block to Pakistan on testing nuclear devices Saudi Arabia provided petrol to Pakistan free of charge for 4 years. Thing to remember is that out of these 4 years 2.5 years were of Musharraf era. So this gift was not for any particular person but for the people.
Bailout Package
Recently Pakistan foreign exchange reserves went down pretty drastically, deteriorating Pakistan credit rating thus driving the cost of borrowing. Saudi Arabia once again stepped in and provided around US $1.5 billion.
Pakistan Iran gas pipeline:
Pakistan Iran gas pipeline was one of the most expensive gas deals. Iran is charging $15/ MMBTU. However, Turkmenistan is supplying gas to Japan at a rate of $4/ MMBTU (2).
Foreign Remittances:
Pakistani sent US $3 Billion in foreign remittance to Pakistan from Saudi Arabic. No amount is mentioned regarding Iran (1).
Pakistan Nuclear Program:
It is a known fact that only high ranking official of one country is ever allowed to enter Kahuta Nuclear facility of Pakistan and that is of Saudi Arabia. It is also a known fact that the initiation of nuclear proliferation case against Pakistan and vilification campaign against Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan (the known father of Pakistan Nuclear Program) was due to Iran. The one whom we tried to help as a friend and which in turn tried to stab our back and get our nuclear program rolled back.
Other Roles:
Saudi Arabia:
Saudi Arabia has not only helped when asked like after nuclear blast, but it has also helped voluntarily on number of occasion with different projects like Shah Faisal Mosque, large donations when flood or other calamities hit Pakistan.
Iran:
Iran has twice invaded Pakistan international borders and killed our men (3). Iran is involved in directly funding fiqah-jafriya and other terrorist organizations in Pakistan. Apart from some very limited humanitarian aid, Pakistan has never been given any meaningful help from Iran.
Iran is directly involved in proxy wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Bahrain, Yemen simultaneously. There forces are on record spreading anarchy in these region. Another thing to consider here is that Syria, Lebanon and Yemen all have around 15 – 20% Shia population and in Pakistan also we have around 20% Shia population. So this itself is a very serious question for Pakistan.
Lesson: Remember the True History

Re: Pakistan: Iran & Saudi Arabia: Distinguishing True Friend

^ let see what the others have to say alhtough this does not justify involving in this war. may be only support we should give is just as protection of harmain.

Re: Pakistan: Iran & Saudi Arabia: Distinguishing True Friend

It is not Pakistan’s fault that we have kept our relations with Iran so strained because we like to lick saudi feet.

India has close relations and friendship with both Saudi Arabia and Iran. Why couldn’t we?

Its funny the post says that we should not like Iran because they do not give us bheek. Sad, but funny.

Re: Pakistan: Iran & Saudi Arabia: Distinguishing True Friend

The thing is that Saudia is not in danger…the bottom line is that the government can’t refuse them, the rest are all excuses. I just hope this does not widen the fault lines we have in Pakistan..

Re: Pakistan: Iran & Saudi Arabia: Distinguishing True Friend

the funniest part is that those who wants Pakistan to get rid of u.s bheek are perfectly ok with Saudi one.

Re: Pakistan: Iran & Saudi Arabia: Distinguishing True Friend

Those who want to get Pakistan army engaged in this war should keep in mind the history of yemen is no different to Afghanistan…we are still reeling from the affects of one.

Re: Pakistan: Iran & Saudi Arabia: Distinguishing True Friend

Its been two weeks and we still haven’t caved. That is pretty damn ****ing good considering Musharraf rolled over in an hour to US demands.

Re: Pakistan: Iran & Saudi Arabia: Distinguishing True Friend

^ fortunately KSA can’t threaten of ‘stone-age’

Re: Pakistan: Iran & Saudi Arabia: Distinguishing True Friend

^ they don’t threaten they send you to the Stone Age courtesy of their stooges :snooty:

Re: Pakistan: Iran & Saudi Arabia: Distinguishing True Friend

Whether manpower export or remittances or help in all difficult times , its Saudia Arab and GCC that helped us not God Chosen Wilayt-e-Faqih Mullai of Iran … so Pakistan must side with saudia & GCC … Interests of pakistan is Supreme over everything … Simple !

Re: Pakistan: Iran & Saudi Arabia: Distinguishing True Friend

So Saudis have the power and influence of Americans?

Someone please sent a camelgram to Riyadh.

Re: Pakistan: Iran & Saudi Arabia: Distinguishing True Friend

Yes and the destruction that Saudia has done in Pakistan with the help of taliban and alqaeda even that would not have been possible via iran.

Re: Pakistan: Iran & Saudi Arabia: Distinguishing True Friend

They r purifying Pakistan so we must thanks them

Re: Pakistan: Iran & Saudi Arabia: Distinguishing True Friend

I see that this is similar situation to 1990 Gulf War when Pakistan did not jump to the Saudi-support band wagon and in result lots of Pakistanis lost jobs. Here comes govt’s incompetency into play. Govts over time failed to provide safety to its citizens, crimes and terrorism only went up while security and basic needs fulfillment of common people went down. If govt can provide basics to the society Pakistan can flourish and lots of investments will pour in and jobs will be created then dependency on ‘foreign remittance’ will go down.

Re: Pakistan: Iran & Saudi Arabia: Distinguishing True Friend

Due to terrorism and poor economy the labour is forced to go abroad (read Middle east) to do menial jobs. Bad economy can be attributed to poor governance and terrorism also due to our choices and help of friendly countries. If the economy was stable at home no one needed to go out and drag their feet as second class citizens.

Re: Pakistan: Iran & Saudi Arabia: Distinguishing True Friend

Indeed the blood of pakistani comes cheap when compare to the saudis

From the condition of majority of the workers working in saudia to the stranded hand amputees, that much respect and interest of pakistan being supreme

How many pakistani have been killed police, army walay, citizen and they need more as saudis have help in most difficult time

Was a independent country but after zia, started losing it and now seems soon to be another afghanistan

Re: Pakistan: Iran & Saudi Arabia: Distinguishing True Friend

Read the huffinton post and the NYT and it seems they do. Someone should also send one to these news outlets.

Re: Pakistan: Iran & Saudi Arabia: Distinguishing True Friend

This x100.

Re: Pakistan: Iran & Saudi Arabia: Distinguishing True Friend

Agreed with Ali Syed.

I think its a bad idea to side with either salafis or hard line Shias in this stupid civil war amongst muslims. It’s only going to deepen tensions in Pakistan, more bombings of mosques and imambargas, more division between the groups.

Re: Pakistan: Iran & Saudi Arabia: Distinguishing True Friend

Um yeah for that small pittance of a charity in the grand scheme of things, we sold Saudis our blood, our future progeny, our middle and lower classes into terrorism by enrolling them in Saudi-sponsored Madrassas, teaching them hate in the name of Islam, and furthermore putting a black mark on muslims around the world thanks to the recurrent incessant crimes of terror these Saudi troll army (i.e. used to be normal Pakistani citizens), now launch in the name of Islam.
