Pakistan Iran gas pipeline

So now since West and Iran has reached to an agreement over Nuclear/Sanctions issue, its about time to resume/kick-start gas pipeline.

We should also offer India once more time to join in the project since India pulled out due to sanctions on Iran.

Proposed pipeline is supposed to greatly benefit Pakistsan (in fact the whole region).

I hope Shareef Brother’s personal agenda/relations with middle East royals does not hinder the project.

Re: Pakistan Iran gas pipeline

Pakistan has a problem now. The agreement Zardari signed in his last month as presidentis not really economically beneficial for Pakistan. It was a last ditch effort to buy some more votes (he also brought 300 of his friends to Iran for the signing ceremony), putting Pakistan at risk of confrontation with both Iran and US.

Unless the prices are re-negotiated, we would be stuck with Mr Ten Percent’s legacy..… paying penalties to Iran for his haram khori.

Here’s what the Economist said about it:

For five years, Mr Zardari’s administration has sat on the country’s energy crisis, with little action beyond get-rich-quick schemes for his cronies. The Iranian gas is not cheap. Exploiting Pakistan’s domestic reserves, which produce gas at about half the price, has been neglected. So, too, have imports of liquefied natural gas. Little has been done to deal with appalling inefficiencies in the country’s electricity system.

But even though the announcement of the Iranian pipeline looks like a gimmick, the Americans’ idea of gas all the way from Turkmenistan is a pipe dream. Beleaguered Pakistanis have longer to wait before gas flows into homes, or blackouts are a thing of the past.

“It is our international commitment that we will connect the gas pipeline with Iran.** From the Gwadar side we have already started it. **With the [expected] relaxation of sanctions, both [Pakistan and Iran] will conclude work on the gas pipeline.

“Pakistan never stopped work on this project but sanctions against Iran remained a major stumbling block in executing the project,” said Abbasi.

Combined, the two projects are expected to have a cost of Rs1 trillion ($9.9 billion). “We are hopeful to start work on the Gwadar LNG pipeline in September this year from Nawabshah,”

Abbasi told *The Express Tribune. *

Re: Pakistan Iran gas pipeline

wohi betuki paki bakwaas. The project initiated on papers in 1994 and continued negotiations till Zardari signed the project before end of PPP government. The project is very much in need to overcome power crises in a country particularly in Karachi and in rural Sindh where already more than 1300 people died due to load shedding and power outages. Keep shut your biased and personal grudges over interest of the country.

ISLAMABAD: There are many misperceptions on the intentions of government about Iran gas pipeline project, **however international sanctions on Iran are main hurdles to make any progress on this project. **

I**f international sanctions are removed, Pakistan could complete this project within 30 months. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources addressing business community at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) said Iran has been asked to revise timeline of the project in view of sanctions.
**
There are many complications in Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project and enhancing domestic production of gas is our main focus.

For this purpose, gas policy has been revised, 50 blocks have been auctioned and more will be auctioned to improve domestic gas production, he said.

Government is focusing on shale gas and due to supply and demand of gap, import of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) is the only short-term solution and efforts are afoot for a terminal to handle 400 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) LNG, which will save $1.2 billion per year.

Entrepreneurs are the engine of growth and no economy could develop without promotion of business and industry. He said government would take all possible measures to provide gas facility to industry. We are working to ensure efficient utilisation of gas to improve its maximum availability.

He said with the improvement in availability of gas, ban on new connections would go. Government is focusing on deregulation to minimise its role and interference in business activities so that businessmen could take the lead in economic development of the country.
He assured the local business community their problems would be resolved on priority.

Zardari welcomes Iran nuclear deal - Pakistan - DAWN.COM

ISLAMABAD: Former president Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday welcomed the deal between Iran and P5 +1 struck in Vienna over the former’s nuclear program, terming it “a far reaching development that holds the potential of a game changer in the region”.

“The agreement is a triumph of diplomacy and negotiations over coercion and hostility and is most welcomed," he said.
An Iran cooperating with the world raises prospects and hopes for peace, stability and development in the region, he said.

The test now is for all sides to uphold their commitments in letter and spirit, said the former president expressing the hope that they will.

**He also called upon the government to seize the moment and translate the dream of the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project — which was formally initiated by the former

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) government — into a reality.
“The nuclear deal opens the doors for the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project and thereby resolve our lingering and crippling energy crisis,” said Zardari.
“A great lesson of the Iran and P5+1 deal is that given perseverance, patience and commitment, nations can overcome decades of hostility and move towards building structures of peace.”
“Dialogue and negotiations and not hostility and animosity are the way forward for peace, stability and development in South Asia,” he added.**

Re: Pakistan Iran gas pipeline

^ I would weight analysis from Economist much higher than musings of Shahid Khaqan Abassi who was set to gain lots of $$$s as a sitting minister.

Please keep to the facts instead of getting personal and let us know the price of gas agreed with Iran and the price in international markets? Why should we pay 80% of price of oil as price of gas?

Even Zardari was himself against the price offered by Iran initially but accepted the terms in the last month of his term knowing that he had amassed enough wealth for the time being and not interested in returning to office.

Turkey went into arbitration with Iran over gas pricing and won.

The project was feasible with India involved since Pakistan would get transit fee but that is not on the cards anymore.

Re: Pakistan Iran gas pipeline

Don't think it will work. Iran has its oil market opened up, so won't be looking to offer cheap gas to pakistan.

moreover, the gawadar port and chine corridor is thorn for both iran and uae - with sanctions gone the 'interference' is likely to increase for the corridor thingy with china.

Re: Pakistan Iran gas pipeline

Link your economist report if you have any. I don’t want to see a cooked up negative report just because Zardari signed the deal. Keep just arse on fire reports with yourself.

Re: Pakistan Iran gas pipeline

I already did in the post you originally quoted.

And please keep your language civil.

Re: Pakistan Iran gas pipeline

As I already said that this project was initiated in 1994 by then PPP government. The successive governments carried on with this project. Iran has already spent billions of $s for this project according to agreement with Pakistan government. pakion ka koi din iman hay ke nahin. Pakistan ke andar to chori aor sina zori kartay hain, how can you back out of this agreement when project is in advance stage of completion??? I use proper language when I see biased and incorrect reporting just because a person who signed this project, you did not like him even though the project is in best interest of the country. **Tehran nuclear deal revives hope for Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline - Pakistan - DAWN.COM
**
ISLAMABAD: Islamabad is hopeful of reviving a stalled gas pipeline project connecting Iran to energy-starved Pakistan, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on Wednesday following the signing of a historic nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers.

Launched in 2010, the project envisages the creation of 1,800 kilometre pipeline from Iran to Pakistan, which has for years been blighted by an energy crisis that has stunted its economic growth.

“A lot of issues that have built up over the years will be resolved, especially the Iran-Pakistan pipeline, where we have a contractual obligation to buy the gas and they have the obligation to deliver the gas but that has been hit by the sanctions,” Shahid Khaqan Abbasi told AFP.

Iran completed its part of the project in 2013, but Pakistan put construction on hold citing US and European sanctions on Tehran linked to its nuclear programme.

The International Atomic Energy Agency is set to verify Iran has implemented its commitments in December, paving the way for sanctions to be lifted from the start of next year.

**“Now hopefully, as the sanctions are removed, it will facilitate us in addressing our energy needs and also meet the contractual obligation,” Abbasi added.
**
Pakistan’s key ally China is currently financing the construction of a gas pipeline from the southern town of Nawabshah to the deep-water port of Gwadar, not far from Iran.

Once that is built, Pakistan will “only have to build another 80 kilometres” of pipeline to link up to Iran, and could eventually extend the project as far as its northern border with China, said Abbasi.

He further said that projects worth Rs 1,000 billion are underway for completion of Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline and LNG smart gas projects. He said a decision has been taken to postpone the recovery of cess for three months after which further action would be decided by the concerned committee of the parliament.

Re: Pakistan Iran gas pipeline

^ Minister Abbasi again. Thx.

If you cared enough to read, I didn't say anything about the project. Just the pricing of gas agreed by Zardari is not feasible and independent sources agree with it. Even Zardari said the price was very high and later signed the deal at the same price in the last month of his haram khori spree.

Re: Pakistan Iran gas pipeline

I am surprised that the 12 jamaat pass establishment hasn't been blamed and calls haven't been given by jiyalas to break Pakistan.

They allegedly hate zardari, but a fission reaction happens if zardari is ever pulled away from them.

Re: Pakistan Iran gas pipeline

Read the latest statement of Zardari. Don't beat about the bush.

Re: Pakistan Iran gas pipeline

That haram khor has nothing to lose now. He can say whatever he wants out of his palace in Dubai or France. Pakistan will lose if we go ahead with current pricing structure.

Get my posts translated. I have nothing against the project. It is still very much beneficial for Pakistan if pricing is reasonable. IPI would have also been beneficial at current price but India has backed out already and Pakistan doesn't get any transit fee.

Re: Pakistan Iran gas pipeline

Let me be very clear on your rhetoric. Pakistan main do tarah ke politicians hain ek haramkhor doosray haramzaday. aap haramzaadon ko support karte ho aor main haram khoron ko support karta hoon. ab khosh.

Re: Pakistan Iran gas pipeline

I don't support either haramkhor or haramzaday. You can continue your support for haram khors.

Thank you for clearly stating that you do not have any problems with corrupt politicians.

Re: Pakistan Iran gas pipeline

Didn't you support N$ and PML(N) in past and now IK and his PTI?? Pakistan main sub bikau hain politicians ho ya aam shehri. You have to choose between haramkhor ya haramzaday. Otherwise you are not living in Pakistan but living in a virtual lala land.

Re: Pakistan Iran gas pipeline

Prove that they are haram zaday. :)

I support ideas and stances. I'm not a blind worshiper of people.

Re: Pakistan Iran gas pipeline

What good they are to Pakistan? Me either.
