Re: Pakistan & Indian cricket no comparison
Over the past 24 months, cricket has made me even prouder to be a Pakistani than i was before. Cricket has really brought out the most noble in Pakistan and Pakistanis, though sadly in sharp contrast to across the border.
- During the time of elevated tensions between Pakistan and India, Pakistan kept politics out of cricket by being willing to play against India, but India refused and insisted on politicising it.
- When India visited Pakistan, wherever in the country they played they found Pakistanis being good sports and cheering them on as they played. Whereas Indians only did this in similar numbers in Punjab.
- When India won in Pakistan, they found Pakistanis celebrating their victory. When India won in Pakistan, Pakistanis set of fireworks to celebrate; when Pakistan won in India, Indians threw bottles and other objects onto the pitch.
The differing attitudes of the two peoples frankly is just another example of two-nation theory - Jinnah said that we have distinct values and this has manifested itself in the response to cricket.
Arguably, the one exception was in Indian Punjab, where the Indian crowd were as sporting as Pakistanis. I therefore propose that any peace settlement between India and Pakistan involves Pakistan annexing Indian Punjab ![]()
