Re: Pakistan hunt for bowling talent
exactly… thats my point..but i am more than positive, that we will unearth at least a couple of bowlers who will be good enough.. not just speed wise, but accuracy wise as well..
Re: Pakistan hunt for bowling talent
As Ghabbar Singh wud say in the movie 'Sholay': "Kaalia, kithnay log thay"..."Siraf do??"....and people say we have plenty of resources to replace our super sonic the one and only Shoaib Akhter......keep tryin folks, maybe in another century.....
Re: Pakistan hunt for bowling talent
The quest is to find "new" bowlers.... Zahid, Irshad, Yasir are already 'known' quickies. I think we were better off coaching the existing pool of pacers but then its PCB we are talking about.
Re: Pakistan hunt for bowling talent
Why do you think we will not have a better and fitter bowler bowling on the streets these days??? Why are you so sure about it? Care to answer!
One thing I can agree on is we sure do not have a bowler like Akhtar, but there are some other reasons for that.![]()
Re: Pakistan hunt for bowling talent
Why do u assume things? If u wud read my posts from the begining u will understand where Iam coming from. Cricket is not a beauty pageant or modelling assignment which can be discovered and moulded. We have a proper cricketing circuit with professional, hard working, dedicated boyzzzz working on the field with one aim in mind: be selected for Pakistan national team. Now either we tell all those poor chaps that they r simply wasting their time and sud find a new profession or we give them the respect and chance they have earned for themselves. Indulging in such marketing gimmicks are nothing but desperate attempt by a bunch of incompetent ninkampoops.
Re: Pakistan hunt for bowling talent
And Wasim Akram was the best performer in QA trophey 1984, right???? Or was he picked up by Miandad driving by a park in Lahore?
Some people couldn't get selected for regional teams even, due to some very ugly reason that we all know: Local politics and quotas etc. But thats not the whole point. Have you seen home selling by MLS registered broker? Sometimes they have to hold Open House to let everyone have a chance to look and bid on house. Instead of waiting for a potential buyer brougt by another broker. Most of the time you get better offers/bids in Open House due to hassle free direct approach and lots of customers bidding at the same time.
May be on some street/mohalla there is a potential fast bowler bowling in tape ball night matches, who can never think of going through the club level cricket (may be can't afford it or won't get permission to waste time), who looks at the ad in newspaper for the open invitation in talent hunt program in his town and calls up and gets registered. Who knows he turns out to be the next Shane Bond for the cricket world.
Possiblities we are talking here. Once in two years if they held these kinds of events, it will not harm anyone.
Re: Pakistan hunt for bowling talent
Muhammad Talha was among the top bowlers of the day and clocked 81.9 mph followed by Dilawar Hasan and Naeem Ashraf who bowled with a speed of 81.5 mph and 81.2 respectively. The top 23 bowlers were selected to participate in the second round tomorrow to fight for the three top positions to take part in the final.
Mohammad Talha of Faisalabad is a very good future prospect, he is only 16 years old and according to the latest information he has bowled at 83 MPH. He has been training with Aqib javed in NCA for quite a while now and he is grooming Talha for future.
Don't get your hopes too high, it's rare to find 90+ bowlers and we have been lucky to have them in the same team, there was this pace competition held 2 years ago and fastest bowler in PAKISTAN was clocked around 86-87 MPH and i don't see that changing unless there is a surprise.
Re: Pakistan hunt for bowling talent
Discovery and selection of rare talents such as Waseem Akram are the exception not the rule. I can give u many more examples of tried miracles which people do not remember cause they landed flat on their faces. Brett Lee, Mcgrath, Harmisson, Simon Jones, Freddie, Zaheer Khan, Pathan, Nathan Bracken etc etc these are all products of a well supervised system which encourages competition and hard work. Pakistan has ben fortunate to find exceptional talent like Waseem Akram when they needed it most, but u cannot expect miracles to happen all the time.
Yes, having these events held once a year across the country is not a bad thing and actually sud be encouraged. BUT, this sud not be used as a selection tool to play teams like England which will be touring Pakistan in the next one month. As a matured cricketing nation with a proper domestic cricket network we sud place more emphasis on domestic cricketers and encourage those who excel in performance. That is the only way for sustainable growth.
Re: Pakistan hunt for bowling talent
pakistan needs a bowler...a bowler of high speed, swing and good cricketing mind...for me sami, shabbir, gul r just betta bowlers....cannot be prove match winning in test matches..rana naveed is not suitable for test matches...only shoaib has th guts to win match for pak....
pakistan needs a bowler to not to support shoaib but he also be enough confidence of himself to win matches for pak..
hunt for bowling talents should be done in every major city
Re: Pakistan hunt for bowling talent
I agree with you on the England tour bit, it will be a big gamble and inujustice with the new comer to put him against the No. 2 team in the world. I am just in favour of this kind of talent hunt program every other year.
Re: Pakistan hunt for bowling talent
Ehsan Sheikh attains speed of 85.4 in Sialkot
SIALKOT: Ehsan Sheikh, Hammad Butt and Hassan Aqeel were selected on Friday from Sialkot after the two-day long trials to appear in the final of the Pepsi-PCB Pace Attack 2005 to be held in Lahore later this month. Sialkot was the fifth venue for this speed contest for the country-wide search of fast bowlers jointly organised by Pepsi-Cola and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). More than 600 boys appeared in the contest held here at the Jinnah Stadium on Thursday and Friday. Ehsan Sheikh and Hammad Butt generated speeds of 85.4 mph and 84.3 mph, respectively. The third bowler Hassan Aqeel attained a high speed of 83.7 mph.The month-long contest’s sixth camp is being held in Multan on October 1 (Saturday) and today. After that, such camps will be held in Hyderabad, Karachi, Rawalpindi and Lahore. The final will be held in Lahore on October 16 and 17 among the 30 selected bowlers from these cities. The top six bowlers will join the Pakistan national cricket camp for the selection of the Pakistan team for the coming England series this month.
Wow, Sialkotis proved to be the quickest of the LOT, still waiting to a 90 MPH + bowler though.
Re: Pakistan hunt for bowling talent
Does anyone know about the exact format of this competition?
I mean 600 bowlers showed up in Sialkot. How did PCB check them in 2 days? How many deliveries were allowed for each bowler? If 2 balls were allowed for each bowler, it would be almost 200 overs to be bowled over 2 days which is almost impossible given the fact that all of them are fast bowlers with a long run up. And if only one ball was allowed per bowler, then this whole exercise is nothing but a circus. After all our great Wasim Akram always used to bowl his first ball a wide ball with no sense of direction whatsoever. Anyway, I have a feeling that as usual PCB is not organizing this event in a proper way.
Re: Pakistan hunt for bowling talent
200 overs in 2 days is very much possible. Unlike regular ODI's where the field need to be set, the filders have to be moved, switch ends, a lunch break, ball chasing and all the other stuff, in this competition none of that has be to considered. So infact more then 100 overs are possible in 1 day if they start early and end late they can send as many as 150 overs in one day.
Re: Pakistan hunt for bowling talent
I highly doubt that any of these youngster will be given the opportunity to play England. Most of them are rookies, and England series is only a month away but it is a good opportunity for the future prospect to join the national academy and harvest their talent.
Re: Pakistan hunt for bowling talent
Bhai saab why do we need to play them against England anyway????? We already have long list of players waiting to sneak in and these youngsters will train with senior bowlers, they will then be trained at NCA and grommed for the future.
Phoenixdesi, it's surely possible to bowl 200 overs over two days. It's not that the bowlers had to bowl and go back to the start again. I would assume that all the bowlers would have lined up in some order and they would come and bowl one by one. I have watched the UFone speed competition, it normally takes less than half a time to bowl six balls in this com than the normal over.
Re: Pakistan hunt for bowling talent
By the way, this Ehsan Sheikh guy who bowled at 85.4 MPH is also 16 years old just like Mohammad talha who bowled at 83 + MPH.
Re: Pakistan hunt for bowling talent
thanks for the answer. so it appears that every one bowled more than one ball…
Re: Pakistan hunt for bowling talent
For sure phoenix, they MUST have bowled more than one ball.
