Lahore’s Kamran Shahzad emerges as fastest bowler

LAHORE: Kamran Shahzad of Lahore emerged as the fastest bowler of the Pepsi-PCB Pace Attack contest which concluded at the Gaddafi Stadium under lights here on Monday.

Kamran delivered the ball at 87.4 mph in the final attended by the 30 fast bowlers from all over the country. The other bowlers selected to join the Pakistan camp for the upcoming England series were Sohail Pathan (Karachi), 85.7 mph; Nasir Ahmed (Peshawar), 84.6 mph; Muhammad Talha (Faisalabad), 84.5 mph; Shahid Iqbal (Lahore), 84.1 mph and Muhammad Imran (Peshawar), 82.3 mph.

More than 8,000 young fast bowlers from all over the country participated in the month-long competition. The contest, jointly organised by Pepsi Cola International and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), kicked off at Quetta’s Bugti Stadium on September 20. The other venues were Peshawar, Abbottabad, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Multan, Hyderabad, Karachi, Rawalpindi-and Islamabad. From each centre, three of the fastest-bowling boys were elected to appear in the final at Lahore. The top six will join the national cricket camp for possible selection to play for Pakistan against England.
