Thiruvananthapuram: PCI chief Markandey Katju on Monday likened Pakistan to Jurassic Park, saying violence and deaths are being reported everyday due to inherent faults in that country’s formation. Delivering the second Rajiv Gandhi memorial lecture organised by the Institute of Parliamentary Affairs here, he said the commotion in that country was the natural consequence of setting up a theocratic state.
**“You cannot create a state on the basis of religion in the sub-continent which is full of diversities,” he said. Speaking on the topic ‘What is India’, Katju, whose article ‘Truth about Pakistan’ was recently published by ‘The Nation’ in Pakistan, said Partition was a mistake and a combined nation comprising India and Pakistan that would not tolerate religious bigotry and Hindu and Muslim extremism, would become a reality some day in future. **
He said Partition had sown the seeds of the destruction of Pakistan as a nation. He also said India was passing through a period of transition from feudal agricultural society to modern industrial society. “The transition is a very painful and agonising period in our history. It is the duty of all patriotic people to spread rational and scientific ideas in this period to combat casteism, communalism and superstitions,” he said.

^ sad but he is right. While after independence India has prospered, we are competing with Somalia and the likes in terms of economy and Iraq/Afghanistan in terms of security. I frankly dont see any end to this, not even after change of government.

ironic that i said the exact same thing yesterday in my thread…*"that the rationale for Pakistan movement was to protect Muslims economic benefits…simple as that … but the problem is that we ran Pakistani movement on “an organized religion implementation” basis…and Mohammd Ali Jinnah who was a secular leader himself all his life blessed this notion intentionally to gain independence..he knew this is the easiest way to emotionalize Muslims and get them unified…
but once we did that, we made sure that we were born out of hatred … coz organized religion divides the society to its core..i think that is where we all made a blunder and we are paying the price…"

We can start from some honest government which is sensitive to the needs of its people and treats all of the people of the country equally.
What about Honest PPL in the Country ..... As far i can think u need a Honest basis of PPL to create a honest set-up that manages things to bring it back on track
When almost everyone is busy with anything other than honesty where do u intend to start other than the little man on the street????

Like Imran Khan says fish rots from the top, I believe that as well. When people will be installed on merit (in organizations) the productivity will go up and corruption will decrease. Improving the departments like NAB and police would further improve things. Can we really expect miracles with incompetent,corrupt people (selected due to reference) running organizations at the moment?

I do agree with everything u said BUT an Honest administration isn't the only solution to this mess ..... PPL have to clean up the mess in their own backyard regardless what it might cost them personally and that's the dilemma i see as one of the biggest hurdle
Honest System works with nonest PPL but when u've PPL who r ready to do anything for a handful Rs. then what will an Honest Ploicemen do, what will an Honest Judge do, what will an honest politician do
U can't enforce Honesty upon PPL especially when we are talking about 180million who have been deprived of the basic things for far too long ..... and the mindset is that u can get ur way if u've power ..... It's this shortsighted mindset that has almost completely destroyed the fabric of the society
I would love to have as much hope as u but since my travels to Pakistan (from 1996 to date) i've seen things only go one way and u know what i mean :(

No, he's not entirely right. There's nothing about partition that has the current status quo as it's logical conclusion. There was no inkling Pakistan was headed in this direction until probably the late 90's, which is where India and Pakistan really began to diverge.
India's development is distinguished in two important ways from Pakistan's:
1. In India, there was a strong anti-feudal movement, which Pakistan never saw.
2. In India, the military was firmly relegated to the barracks. Not so in Pakistan.
The latter point is perhaps really what was the undoing of Pakistan. The ISIs policy with regards to miltants, and the loss of Bangladesh can all be attributed to the failings of the Generals who overstep their authority and function.

and UP is no less that Super jurassic park
Actually UP is not jurassic park, instead it has yet to come out of stone age where the law is non existent and might was right.
Though, bihar used to be worse and it has transformed itself beautifully but UP is lagging way behind. I must say that progress has been made in UP as well but it is slowest amongst all the states. Still a long way to go.

I hate it when people compare us to Somalia or Afghanistan because that is untrue. We are the 27th largest economy in PPP terms and 46 in terms of Read GDP. We were number 50 in 2008. So every year our economy has gotten bigger and bigger. Our exports have increased even with no power, limited man power and limited support from market access programme.
Lastly its time Pakistan moved away from the India focus and concentrate on ourselves. We can not compare with India due to a host of reasons and nor should we try too. We should be able to stand alone and say yeah the situation is bad but things are good on some ends and our economic figures are good to an extent considering all our issues.

Maybe not as bad as Somalia/Afghanistan but no better than most countries. Its quite easy to point to rankings but even you know they're primarily misconstrued. Pakistan is in a very bad position now. Weak economically, politically, socially. The reality is things are simply messed up to a point where its hard to be optimistic.
