Forex reserves reach historic level

KARACHI: During the financial year ending June 30, Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves have reached the historic level of $15,613.7 million. According to the State Bank of Pakistan, the reasons of foreign exchange reserves reaching the record level include major growth in foreign investment, remittances, port folio investment, successful launching of Pakistan Euro bonds and amounts gained from GDRs in international market. The foreign exchange reserves during the financial year 2006-07 increased by 18.85 per cent against the year 2005-06 and went up to $15,613.7 million. During this period, foreign exchange reserves available with the central bank with an increase of 23.86 per cent reached $13,328.4 million whereas the reserves with the banks with a decrese of 3.84 per cent reached the level of $ 2,285.3 million.
