Two points
- Protection can be given without arresting and registering a case.
- If that’s the only way a unruly mob can be handled that says volume about state of affairs in Pakistan. In most other places, there would have been firing in the air, tear gas, rubber bullets, firing would have happened. Public can only file a complaint and protest peacefully, the moment they threaten to lynch the “accused” it becomes law and order issue. The public want to be Complainant, Prosecutor and Jury. But, the problem here is “the law”, which makes it a criminal offence!!! Even for a sane person, it can’t be a criminal offence.
