Pakistan cricketers minus Shoaib Akhtar sign central contracts

Not before time. These contracts should have been introduced sometime ago.

KARACHI (AFP) - The top 17 Pakistan cricketers will get a monthly salary of around 3,500 to 1,200 dollars under the first ever national contracts signed here on Sunday, officials said.

However express pacer Shoaib Akhtar raised certain objections and has not signed the contract, details of which will be unveiled by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan at a press conference later.

Captain Inzamam-ul Haq, vice captain Yousuf Youhana, allrounder Abdul Razzaq, and Akhtar were offered “A” category contracts and will get a monthly salary of 200,000 rupees (around 3,500 dollars), they said.

Cricket officials said Akhtar had certain objections on restrictions over his private endorsements.

“The PCB has put a clause in Akhtar’s contract that whenever he signed a private endorsement he would need PCB’s permission which stopped Akhtar from signing the contract,” they said.

Reports in Pakistan media suggested Akhtar was initially placed in the “B” category but when he raised the issue with the PCB chairman last week he and Razzaq were elevated to the top grade.

A 17-man Pakistan squad will leave for Australia Sunday night to play three Tests and feature in a triangular one-day tournament, also involving the West Indies.

Only two of the touring party - uncapped fast bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Khalil - have not been offered contracts while opener Taufiq Umer and pacer Shabbir Ahmed - not in the team for Australia - have signed the contracts.

Players put in the “B” category will get 125,000 rupees (around 2,100 dollars) while players in the “C” category will get 75,000 rupees (around 1,200 dollars) a month.

Pakistan was the only Test playing country not to have central contracts with the players.

The PCB designed the contracts after studying model contracts from Australia, India and South Africa.

does that mean akhtar is dropped? :konfused:

No, he's going to Aus regardless. But they're hoping he'll sign it before leaving for AUs.

So long as PCB is not asking to get any share out of his outside contratcs I dont see the harm in letting them know what he is upto. I mean I actually think it's kinda fair so we dont have another one of those situations where a national hero appears in a liquor ad and no one knows if it's true or not. Shoaib is an employee of PCB since he is getting monthly salary now and he is a national hero (doesnt matter if some people dont like the fact). I think PCB should have some kind of overview of his activities.

It's an ad, millions of people see it on TV, no secret. I saw it myself. Wasim's in it along with McGrath.

whatever

Is that the limit of your comments in every thread?

I was hoping you have more to offer than presenting your half nick in most threads!

Regarding the topic, Finally Pakistani crickets get contracts. Hope that Shoaib's signature is a non-issue and media doesnt make a big deal out of it.

nice to see pakistan finally break the duck! i think pcb have really made a brave offer/deal to all of the players not a bad sum in salary :k:

also shabi not signing the contract cos of personal endorsement deals well to be quite honest the alcohol ad mentioned and ads of the same nature shouldn’t have pakistani players in em’ mazhab afterall has to be given priority.

so can we have a list of players in the A,B,C categories????

so far it seems only inzi, yoyo and razzaq r in the A category....
wonder why malik want put there....
or is shoaib akhtar in A class too (whenever he signs the contract that is)????

any ideas????

these contracts are slightly confusing to me as they have been given out to 17 players touring australia. does this mean that once some one is dropped they will carry on being payed by PCB. And wat happens if they pick a new player? does he get a new contract? aint this a bit of a mess?

Actually Taufeeq Umar and SHabbir Ahmad are also offered the contracts and they are not touring. On the other hand the uncapped players Khalil etc are not offered the contract.

I see only ‘Good’ coming out of this now, may be now Inzi
chacha can hire an English tutor nanni to go beyond ‘Boyz’ do well,:hehe::k:

Isn't that a fairly low amount for professional cricketers? I mean $3,500 per month is.. what... $42,000 per year. Darn cheap I say. Ofcourse, they get a ton of endorsement and advertisement income, but the Board should pay them a reasonable amount. For comparison purposes, what are the salaries of crickets in India or Australia or West Indies or England.

I do know that professional sportsmen in US, especially top ranked players get paid a lot (in $5m plus range) per year, and on top they have their advertisement and endorsement deals.

You can consider this as their pocket money. Its theire wage whether they will play a match or not for months.

They get really handsome amount per ODI and test.

Just like CEO of a large company who gets nominal pay but his benifits & bonuses are 1000s times their monthy pay !

I am sorry. I thought we were talking about professional cricketers, and not CEO's of large companies... so I was trying to keep the comparison to something similar :)

What's wrong with Shoaib? I think it's a good idea. They should tie him up and torture him and force him to sign it.

i really dont get it.. y shoaib got problem with PCB everytime. he got really attitude. ITNA KERTA NAHIN JITNA DIKHHATTA HAI.......... pcb gotta look up for that man.
