West Indies toil as Butt, Yasir shine in tour match

DateLine: 8th November 2006

Opener Salman Butt hit an attractive century and Yasir Hameed piled up 92 runs as West Indian bowlers toiled hard in their two-day tour opener at Bagh-e-Jinnah stadium here on Wednesday.

Butt, who smashed 106 before retiring at tea, scored 175 runs for the opening wicket with Hameed as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Patron’s XI made 305-4 after winning the toss on the first day.

Captain Asim Kamal (33) and Misbahul Haq (38) were unbeaten at stumps.

Butt, who lost his place in the Pakistan team early this year, hit 19 boundaries during his 244-minute knock as none of the West Indian bowlers could find any assistance from an easy paced wicket.

Hameed, recalled in Pakistan’s 15-man squad for the first two Tests, had 12 fours and a six in his more aggressive knock which lasted 196 minutes.

After West Indies’ three-pronged pace attack failed to provide a breakthrough, it was left-arm spinner Dave Mohammed who finally dismissed Hameed in the 45th over of the day.

Hameed miscued a cut and was caught by wicket-keeper Denesh Ramdin.

Fidel Edwards then accounted for Shahid Yousuf (12) and Dwayne Bravo removed Bazid Khan (two) to end the tourists’ day on a consolation note.

West Indies rested star opener Chris Gayle, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Jerome Taylor for the match.

Gayle, who hit 474 runs in West Indies’s runners-up finish in the Champions Trophy in India, was suffering from food poisoning.

Team management hoped Gayle will recover before the first Test which starts here from Saturday.

Failure by any of the openers in the test series means Butt will be back and the cycle will continue…

Re: Pakistan Cricket Board Patron’s XI v West Indians

berrry nice, the pitch didn’t offer much to bowlers which Salman and Yasir cashed on nicely :k:, should be good to keep the current openers on their toes!

Re: Pakistan Cricket Board Patron’s XI v West Indians

everytime you drop one of Imran Farhat, Salman Butt, Taufeeq Umer and Yasir Hameed they make a 100 in side game

Re: Pakistan Cricket Board Patron’s XI v West Indians

You should be banned for taking Taufeeq Umar in same sentence with Salman and Yasir :mocking:

Re: Pakistan Cricket Board Patron's XI v West Indians

Good to see Salman and Yasir with some form.

Re: Pakistan Cricket Board Patron's XI v West Indians

^ Oh please Anees Jee, lets not start bring back Salman threek.

Re: Pakistan Cricket Board Patron's XI v West Indians

^ ehsan pa I am not in favour of bringing him back right away but I would love to see him back in Pak team with his head between his ears :) I mean it would be nice if he could learn from his mistakes like Hafeez did and make a come back after the world cup given that he performs in international cricket as well. :)

Re: Pakistan Cricket Board Patron's XI v West Indians

^ That's what I want as well.

Re: Pakistan Cricket Board Patron’s XI v West Indians

Or take five-wicket hauls as Mohammad Sami regularly used to. :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Pakistan Cricket Board Patron's XI v West Indians

how come Asim kamal is not in the team, what else the poor guy can do to prove his worth

Re: Pakistan Cricket Board Patron's XI v West Indians

I mean the probables for test match

Re: Pakistan Cricket Board Patron’s XI v West Indians

Lest we forget its home ground pitches and hence the result of first day game b/w Patron XI vs. WI, we can safely stick with the current openers
Farhat and Hafeez/Malik (Malik will be Chacha’s 1st choice in test and home ground advantage). I wont be surprised a bit if they (Butt and Hameed) score 50+ second time around.

…Santa Clause days are near and still the game of musical chair is on :halo:

Re: Pakistan Cricket Board Patron's XI v West Indians

as if Farhat is not butterfingered?

Re: Pakistan Cricket Board Patron’s XI v West Indians

^^ you dont want my views on Farhat :o bus leave it to that :snooty:

Re: Pakistan Cricket Board Patron's XI v West Indians

Re: Pakistan Cricket Board Patron's XI v West Indians

Re: Pakistan Cricket Board Patron's XI v West Indians

Lets just bat the whole day, and give West Indies no batting practice at all...Muahahaha.

Windies tour game ends in a draw

**Day 2 PCB Patron’s XI 305 for 4d(Butt 106 retired out, Hameed 92) drew with West Indians 279 for 5 (Bravo 108 retired out, Ganga 42) **

Dwayne Bravo hit a hundred but other key batsmen, including captain Brian Lara, were left short on practice as West Indies drew their two-day tour match against the PCB Patron’s XI in Lahore on Thursday.
Bravo hit 15 fours and two sixes in his 108 before retiring as West Indies reached 279 for 5 before bad light ended the match at the Bagh-e-Jinnah Stadium. The Patron’s XI had declared their first innings at their overnight score of 305-4.
Bravo held the innings together after West Indies lost openers Runako Morton for 21 and Daren Ganga for 42. Bravo added 120 runs for the fourth wicket with uncapped Lendl Simmons, who made 40. Ramnaresh Sarwan managed 29 while Lara did not bat.
West Indies coach Bennett King said the side did not get the kind of preparation they would have liked for the first Test against Pakistan starting in Lahore on Saturday. “It’s not ideal for the format that we are playing but we have been playing a lot of cricket which is certainly beneficial to us,” said King.

Re: Pakistan Cricket Board Patron's XI v West Indians

^ Ok who thinks all 3 tests b/w Pak and WI will be draws?
