Pakistan cricket: A class, ethnic and sectarian history

Nadeem F. Paracha always raises some interesting points but **is he obsessed with ethnicity? **

In every second article written by him there is reference to class, faith and ethnicity.

But then the whole Pakistani society is! … the beemari also reflected in voting patterns!!!

I strongly agree with NFP though that sports and religion should not mix (or politics and religion for that matter). So poor of Inzamam if he kept out Misbah (and Ajmal) on the basis of faith; because Misbah refused to be bullied into following the norm.

Re: Pakistan cricket: A class, ethnic and sectarian history

I think Misbah is one player who is extremely professional and (very rightly) never brings out his religious side in public. Probably deserved more chances earlier on in his career.

Re: Pakistan cricket: A class, ethnic and sectarian history

Well Misbah has turned out to be useless outside of tests, but then inzi (reminds me of the word for pig but not to digress) always got people run out so each has its pros and cons. As for the NFP, yes he has his biases but before religion got injected into the debate, you can't really miss the multitude of ethnic parties, how Lahore was made capital of all of West Pakistan, how army favored certain ethnicities and how west Pakistan especially Punjab benefited much more than East Pakistan. It is another issue that jute went out of style right around the seventies with synthetic fiber but there were genuine issues there. Still, I don't favor a one-sided Pakistani apology to Bangladesh unless facts are straightened out (a "truth and reconciliation commission"?) and they also admit if not apologize for the treatment meted out to biharis and other pro-Pakistani people in Bangladesh in and after the war.

Re: Pakistan cricket: A class, ethnic and sectarian history

I am glad that Misbah was never given a chance because at that time there was no place for him we had Inzi YK and Yousuf then Razzaq Afridi and many others in Test Matches

Re: Pakistan cricket: A class, ethnic and sectarian history

^ My dear , what misbah can do when most of the time his mates let him down. I myself feels if he can change gears a bit earlier is better for him and team as well. But he has this ability and right now we dont have other options honestly looking better.

Re: Pakistan cricket: A class, ethnic and sectarian history

Im not talking about the present Misbah in in team lets just not get into that
