Honestly this is a pipe dream until we can sort out or electricity crisis and our security problems. Till then it doesn’t matter what economic support we put in to this corridor.
We first need power for every second of every day for a good 4 or 5 years.
Re: Pakistan - China economic corridor - an option for Europe?
The world powers will make sure this doesn’t happen, a stable Pakistan means (even) cheaper Chinese goods middle-east, Africa, Europe. But that is exactly what Pakistan needs. Please stop the ‘strategic depth’, eliminate terrorism/extremism then you can see the power of Pakistan!
Re: Pakistan - China economic corridor - an option for Europe?
This is a step in the right direction and govt should keep on pursueing its economic goals regardless of countless distractions. And thats exactly why we need a lot of stability for next few years.
Re: Pakistan - China economic corridor - an option for Europe?
Security and according to the Dawn, the Chinese wanted it through Punjab, as it would provide greater security. Going through Quetta, up towards Peshawar will mean what happens to NATO tankers will happen to Chinese goods. More so since large stretches of the land are not settled and don’t have petrol stations or support for break downs.
I personally don’t agree with the idea. I rather have it go through Balochistan, have balochis employed and settle those areas and build around that land route.
Just like all major cities of the world are built around water routes or near the ocean, the same could have been done for this road.
But alas we don’t think strategically or for the long term.

^ agreed, the govt needs to make the areas safer instead of trying to avoid the ‘less safe’ areas. Its just like police/rangers avoiding gang/mafia areas, to me its the govt admitting its failure in law enforcement as well as incompetence/incapability to enforce law. Having the route go straight up will provide local labor opportunities, local business opportunities, shorter route for transportation. If Chinese want to ‘distribute’ their goods in Punjab we can have alternate connection to other highways IMO.
