At least eight children have been killed after a train hit their school bus at an ungated railway crossing in Pakistan’s Punjab province. A police official told the Associated Press that 12 children were injured in the incident near the Mian Channu town. The driver of the bus was also killed.
Reports say that no casualties have been reported on the passenger train.
Railway crossings are often ungated, unmanned and poorly maintained in Pakistan, leading to such accidents.
Wednesday morning’s incident happened when the bus carrying school children was crossing an unmanned and ungated railway crossing.
The morning fog had reduced visibility and the passenger train which was travelling from Quetta to Lahore crashed into the bus, reports said.
