Pakistan becoming secular under Musharraf.

For the first time in the history of Pakistan, a Sikh was among the cadets who presented the guard of honor at Quaide’s Birth Anniversary. This year marks the first time that Pakistan military has recruited Sikh and Hindu cadets in the history of Pakistan.

Re: Pakistan becoming secular under Musharraf.

Great news, awesome, about time.

Re: Pakistan becoming secular under Musharraf.

Superb news!

It is also the first time female cadets were guarding the Quaid’s shrine.

Pakistan is not becoming secular, it’s just that the Musharraf govt is correcting the inequalities created over the years towards minorities and women in Pakistan. The Pakistan movement led by Quaid-e-Azam espoused true Islamic principles when they guaranteed rights for ALL citizens in Pakistan. Now we are reverting back to those ideas.

Re: Pakistan becoming secular under Musharraf.

On a personal note, I was a civilian student for a while at the E&ME corps, and we had a christian gentleman cadet, and just to relate what I saw, he fitted in nicely with th remaining cadets, even though during tazeem-bash (during recitation) he used to go back a line or two for some odd reason. Overall, he was just like any other GC and was treated like that too. Good for the new cadets and wish them all the success in their remaining careers and hope they go onto higher ranks.

Re: Pakistan becoming secular under Musharraf.

This should been done a long time ago. Minorities living in Pakistan love the country just like the majority and have every right to defend, contribute and die for Pakistan. Just look at Indian muslims they love their country so much despite all the problems and sufferings they have over there.

Re: Pakistan becoming secular under Musharraf.

i apperciate it, nice move all pakistan nationals are equal.

Re: Pakistan becoming secular under Musharraf.

Excellent...

Re: Pakistan becoming secular under Musharraf.

Good to hear, even if symbolic, it is a positive step.

I can just imagine the heartburn it is causing the taliban sharia lovers.

Re: Pakistan becoming secular under Musharraf.

^ come on, that was uncalled for. See thats the problem with the likes of you, you just cant take anything positive without adding another twist to it. It is indeed a very good step, and I am sure no one is against it, or maybe a very very small vocal minority which is completely nuts and no one should care about it in the first place, including you. This is a sign for good things to come, and thats how it should be portrayed.

Re: Pakistan becoming secular under Musharraf.

I disagree. I think it is important to point out that under the taliban version of sharia this could never happen. It is a reminder to never let these mullahs hoodwink us into introducing their so-called sharia. They are experts in presenting their views as tolerant, but in practice it is the same old jihalat.

Re: Pakistan becoming secular under Musharraf.

And the chances of these taliban warriors ruling Pakistan are no different from the mqm taking over the nation, close to 'never'.

Re: Pakistan becoming secular under Musharraf.

We were already half way there with Zia.

Re: Pakistan becoming secular under Musharraf.

as already pointed out by Spock, its not the ‘first time’ recruitment, it could the first time non-Muslims doing the presentation of guard of honor.

Re: Pakistan becoming secular under Musharraf.

^ Cap, or maybe its the first time they had sikh and hindu cadets? The one in my batch was Christian, very nice fella, GC Robin was his name, hes probably a Captain by now too. In about an year or two he will outrank ya ;)

Re: Pakistan becoming secular under Musharraf.

I do not see hardline muslims' comments over here?

Re: Pakistan becoming secular under Musharraf.

There are many in Pakistan who have sympathies for the Taliban and their ilk, I think.. Many people in Pakistan seem to be completely oblivious to the danger these religous fanatics pose.

Re: Pakistan becoming secular under Musharraf.

I saw it on PTV, it was awesome! The PMA has the honor everytime to do this, they are lucky but then again they deserve it!

Re: Pakistan becoming secular under Musharraf.

This was all very nice!
And great pictures SB :k:

One thing is a bit confusing, I was under the impression that cadets sent for guard duty are final termers. But the lady cadets at PMA just joined in Nov 2006 and are 1st termers while GC Harcharan must be at the end of 2nd term or begining 3rd.
