Rs 1 lakh car: Pak beats India
UNI Islamabad July 19: With Indian carmakers still exploring the possibility of producing a Rs 1 lakh car, Pakistan has taken lead over India in making the dream car.
Habib Maritime, a subsidiary of the Habib Group of Pakistan, will soon launch its ‘Sitara,’ a Rs 1.26 lakh (about one lakh Indian rupees) four-seater, 170 cc car which can attain a top speed of 60 km per hour, according to a report in a Pakistani newspaper.
“Sitara is likely to be introduced into the Pakistan auto market by Habib Maritime within the next two to three months,” the daily Times, quoting Mr Asif Rasheed, mechanical engineer at Habib Maritime and a member of the team which designed the car, reported.
It will be a replacement of motorbikes with a higher level of safety, Mr Rasheed said, adding that the car will be launched simultaneously in all major cities across Pakistan.
With no roof or doors, the Sitara looks like a golf cart-jeep hybrid.
The paper, quoting a source at the ministry of science and technology, said the Pakistan standards and quality control authority has approved standard specifications for four-wheelers that will be known as city carts.
If you call that air cooler a car then yes pak beat india.
india has better such models which cost less then 25000 and they are made by local mechanics or farmers.
its not a car at all, at the same time considering its price it can only be attracted by current motor bic owners who has large families.
but this shouldnt have been passed by the auhorties. HABIB group on one side they are making Corolla's at indus motor co. and this picture only group as cart or golf buggy not car! and we have already enough chandi gari carts we dont need this.
Habib's should have come up with better, this can be done by bunch of teenagers from scrap yard!
Trust me - I could slapdash that piece o crap in my own garage within 10 man hours from scratch and would cost me Rs 60,000 max. ( if I make one only)
that is not called a car - if we were in the 19th century then it could be passed as horseless carriage but nowadays ferget it.
Its good for golf carts if its 4 stroke - which it is not I believe.
Screaming abt making these cars at 100 grand - yeah right - put it aside an old aircooled VW - which were being built in Brazil till 2003, the bug is still classified as a proper car.. not some weird lookin turd.
