I'm actually disgusted by some of BB's comments regarding our nuclear program to foreign media, but if you look at her comments and Nawaz Sharif's or Altaf Hussain's you see a pattern.
Whether we like it or not, these are legitimate Pakistani politicians. BB is no more corrupt or illegitimate than Aftab Sherpao or Faisal Hayat. Nawaz is no worse than the Gujrat Chaudries or Sheikh Rashid. Altaf is no worse than Ishratul Ebad.
When they are shut out of our political mainstream, it is not surprising that they lash out at every opportunity they get.
What is wrong with allowing these leaders to be in Pakistan and atone for crimes they committed while they were in Pakistan. Why do we have to exclude them?
For the record, my beef is not with Benazir only. Its with any political leader who bad mouths Pakistan in foreign lands, in front of foreign media, addressed to foreign governments/organizations. Be it Altaf, be it Nawaz or be it Benazir. The simple code of conduct says, when you are in a foreign land you are an ambassador of your country. All your disagreements with the government or policies, yeah sure, say it inside Pakistan. Say it to Pakistanis.
So when they are not allowed inside Pakistan while other people who did the samething as them are in power, what do you expect them to do? They are people too, right?
Faisal,
..infact she didnt bad mouthed Pakistan but she gave an honest opinion about a matter that ws directly relevant to position of democracy of Pakistan.. as u can recall membership for commonwealth was taken away due to the fact that army rule was imposed on Pakistan.. and democracy was not been implemented.. if anyone agree with the way democracy is being run in Pakistan then its ok but most of people i have obseved in Pakistan are sick ansd tired with the way one party rule is been forced upon Pakistan.. how oppositin members are daily forced to change loyalities... all NAB cases are pursued in case of opposition leaders and whenever one changes loyality cases are not pursued.. how whole Punjab was made hostage when Shabaz Sharif came.. how thousands of workers were arrested and their families humiliated .. i am in Lahore these days and seeing such lawlessness by ruling elite never seen before.. Musharaf is a spent force.. all he could do is history now he has compromised with all the corrupt and looters of society.. how he had chance to grap all rascals but u can see the list of all the ministers loyal to him..
Degas, had it been a dishonest opinion, it would be doubly unfortunate. However, that still doesn't answer the question as to why is she living abroad, making all these statements against the government of Pakistan, calling international organizations/countries and criticizing Pakistan? What is stopping Benazir from coming back to Pakistan and face the music?
Sharif family, we have been told signed a mysterious exile package, and personally I feel such "deals" are a mockery of our judicial system. Did Benazir sign a similar exile deal? She has been in jail many times before, so its not new for her to come back and face the charges against her. She wants to criticize Musharraf, she should do it from Pakistan, or at the very least to Pakistani media. I am sure she has ample access to them while she is shuttling between London, Dubai and Washington.

I represent people of Pakistan, while you represent it's ruling elite and army. Most people on this fourm are the elite of Punjab, NWFP or Karachi, not the average people.

once again I dont agree with you, though I do agree on some thing you say on this board.
I dont think I am from elite of Punjab. just an oridinary Pakistani. and I dont think that elite has guts to come here and engage in a discussion. most of us are middle class , if i am not too wrong.
some points you raise are good, but why you opt always to go to extereme so you blame everything on Punjab and Army?
something happened to khi police mobile you blame on punjabis
PPP is greater than Pakistan, and its track record shows that. they should remain in power wether pakistan stays in one peice or not.
no oposition in the world would support any action against its own country!
lessons to be learnt from British or US parties. when they are out of their country they defend country interest not their own personal.
anyway I dont think BB is worth discussion on GS.
if you are against MUsh, fight him in the country, do whatever you want to do to remove him, give him hard time.
but please please place Pakistan's interest first. govt or oppostion both should work for Pakistan not for own personal gains or score some cheap points.

Well, I know some people who went on Commonwealth scholarships from Pakistan, they were deserving candidates, but couldnt afford higher studies abroad. The expenses of the institutions they attended abroad was very high. There are some advantages to the commonwealth which some people fail to see.

Thats the only good thing I see practically happend, I have seen many people getting that in Pak. but mostly professors or lecturers.
commonwealth games are good too.
not much gains in other areas are bein materialised though.
Where there is democracy in India and Pakistan failed
Answer is very simple from one single example which is random from the over all situation in Pakistan.
MQM Altaf Bhaijan in his recent address has criticized the Muslim States for not being democratic. Sonia Ghandi has won the hearts of not only people of India but more particularly of Pakistanis who since 55 years with their wide open eyes are looking forward amongst our politicians at least some fraction of political honesty and discipline always shown by Indian politicians. It is generally thought that our present politicians since mostly are tribal heads, choudharies, waderas etc hence they have no care for common man and only when middle class will come into power problems will solve. It proved wrong when in nineties MQM so-called educated middle class came into power and what discipline they showed.
Sonia Ghandi got Indian nationality some 15 years back. She does not speak Italian. The other day an Italian journalist questioned her in Italian. She got angry and replied in English. Despite being Indian national and being a native now how high conscious she showed that only that she was born in Italy she refused to accept prime ministership. Altaf Bhaijan who is criticizing Muslims, and I wonder if he himself is not a Muslim, is not seeing towards himself that he is holding a foreign nationality, since a decade is living abroad and still claims to be leader of Pakistanis or at least leader of a political party. Can And shame is non of so called educated MQM follower has raised this voice that Altaf Bhai should declare that his follower now choose a new Pakistani leader. This educated class gents and ladies danced on streets the day their leader got UK nationality.
The problem had been that our finance ministers advise others to invest in Pakistan but they keep their savings in bank accounts abroad. We give our foreign nationality holder prime minister pension from old country's fund but he in interview feels no shame saying yes my firm has invested in India and would consider in Pakistan. Our leaders advise overseas Pakistanis to open industries in Pakistan for which there they have created infrastrucutre, one window operation, best enivronment, lot of profit opportunities but these leaders themselves establish their own industries in Jabal-e-Ali UAE, Saudi, Malaysia.
