Pakistan army officer held for 'links with militants'

**The army needs to be purged of all such officers, only than will this institution regain its lost credibility.

Pakistan army officer held for ‘links with militants’**

A senior officer serving in Pakistan’s army has been detained for alleged contacts with a banned militant group.
Pakistan’s military spokesman confirmed to the BBC that Brigadier Ali Khan was being interrogated by the country’s military intelligence unit.
Pakistan has banned a number of groups in recent years for supporting militancy and encouraging extremism.
Brig Ali, who is based at military headquarters, was held last month and his family told he would be home soon.
“Yes, that’s correct that he is under detention and an investigation is in progress for his contacts with a proscribed organisation,” Maj Gen Athar Abbas told BBC Urdu’s Asif Farooqi.
He did not provide any more details about the nature of the alleged contact or the organisation the brigadier is accused of being in touch with.
“Any more details at this point in time may affect our investigation process,” Gen Abbas said.
‘Brilliant’ record A senior military officer, who wished to remain unnamed, told our correspondent that senior officers were both surprised and “disturbed” when a secret report was presented to them about the “inappropriate” activities of the brigadier.
The officer is known to have a “brilliant” service record and comes from a family with three generations of military service.
Brig Ali’s father was a junior commissioned officer, his younger brother is a colonel serving in the intelligence service. His son and son-in-law are both army captains.
A military source told our correspondent that Gen Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, Pakistan’s army chief, had asked for a briefing about the brigadier and after being satisfied about the weight of the “evidence”, ordered the arrest himself.
This is not the first time allegations have been made about links between elements in Pakistan’s military and banned organisations, including militant groups.
At least two army officers were court martialled last year for links with the banned Hizb ut-Tahrir group.
In 2004 several low-ranking military personnel were convicted in connection with attempts on the life of former President Pervez Musharraf.
Last week, Pakistan’s military denied that a major was among several people who had been detained accused of being CIA informants and passing on information which helped the US track down and kill al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden.

Its too early to comment on that, but I hope they are not making someone a "escape goat". The contention between army top officers on various issues is not hidden anymore. But lets see in the upcoming days what it turns into!

Re: Pakistan army officer held for 'links with militants'

Army have to do operation cleanup inside there ranks. First clear yourself from infiltration by CIA or Extremists, then we will talk about world domination.

Ap what's sad in this news? Is it sad to arrest him or would it have been sadder if he would have taken part in some hit in ghq?

Re: Pakistan army officer held for 'links with militants'

As per the information so far, the said Brigadier was detained on his connections with "Hizb-ut-tehrir" which, as per my knowledge, is a non-violant organization and though they have a cause of bringing caliphat, have so far not been proven to be involved into any unlawful act. Yes, I know being in army he's not supposed to have connections with any banned organization but my point is, our main enemy are still Talibans and all those who are doing all sorts of violent acts like wutever happened in PNS Karsaz or GHQ. And NOT finding those culprits mean you are still letting the main enemy free and they can do wutever they want.

Re: Pakistan army officer held for 'links with militants'

Nothing new. Many of the people in Pakistani Army have links to terrorists.

Re: Pakistan army officer held for 'links with militants'

Hizb and non violent, than so is Taliban. The difference between the two is that one openly propagates and takes part in violence (Taliban), the other supports and hides behind freedom of speech in the countries it so despises to further its agenda. Most of the terrorist activities in UK are linked to Hizb and the 7/7 London bombers were Hizb sympathisers. Also Hizb uses UK uni's to radicalise the students there. So to call it non violent is just not right. One does it openly the other uses more sophisticated methods.

Re: Pakistan army officer held for 'links with militants'

No I think there is a huge difference. For example , the supporters of Islamic parties like JI also sympathize jihad and radicalism but that doesnt mean they should all be held up.
Infact, there is a large number of people in Pak who may have no affiliation but verbally they support radicalism, which may or may not include violance. I dont think all of them should be put in jail.

Believe it I'm not their supporter at all, but I really dont remember anything about Hizb-ut-tehrir that is linked with any suicide bombing or anything violant.

Re: Pakistan army officer held for 'links with militants'

hizb ut tahrir is non voilant and strictly follows sunnah to re establish islamic state...and we openly demand nusrah(protection) from army...it may not b gud for army but o muslims it is a fard (obligation) in which lays the success of duniya and aakhira...may Allah strengthens brig Ali!! and giv hadaya to sincere muslims in army

Re: Pakistan army officer held for 'links with militants'

While JI and other parties are political in nature, Hizb is not. It operates under the guise of being a political party or being peaceful, but it is anything but. Behind the scenes it is involved in actively supporting terrorism and radicalising the youth of today especially in UK. its core message is one of intolerance towards anyone who do not subscribe to their views. As I said before the 7/7 bombers and also the Glasgow airport bombers had links with Hizb.

Re: Pakistan army officer held for 'links with militants'

Making statements parrot fashion does not hide the truth. Go on their sites, visit some of their members, look at their inner workings and you will soon realise that what they say and what they do are two different things. I know, believe me.

Re: Pakistan army officer held for 'links with militants'

hizb ul tahrir is gay organization.

Re: Pakistan army officer held for 'links with militants'

According to nawaiwaqt Ali Khan is a part of a militant organization which has direct relations with CIA, I dont know what that means though! I personally think this person would have been arrested due to his CIA links than something else.

Re: Pakistan army officer held for 'links with militants'

this way all top politicians and army personnel should be held up because of cia connections! oh..what's the point

Re: Pakistan army officer held for 'links with militants'

This guy needs to be banned.

Re: Pakistan army officer held for ‘links with militants’

Please leave us, They have killed 40,000 Pakistanis, 99% of them were Muslims. Laanat ho un shaitanon par jo tankhah fauj say letay hain aur naukri doosron ki kartay hain.

ISLAMABAD - **A brigadier of Pakistan Army appointed at General Headquarters was arrested apparently on the charges of having links with a banned militant outfit.**

Brigadier Ali Khan, who was appointed at the Regulation Directorate in GHQ back in May 2009, came under the surveillance radar of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI) earlier this year, according to sources.
Reportedly, after almost six months of surveillance, the ISI and MI in a joint operation, picked up the brigadier from outside his residence on May 6. The intelligence authorities reportedly ran a check on him after some ‘suspicious’ people were found frequently visiting his home. The call records of Khan’s cell phone confirmed the suspicions of intelligence agencies. Sources said Brigadier Ali Khan was linked to the section of militants that had direct ties with the Central Investigation Agency (CIA) and the military intelligence agencies arrested him to probe this connection. The ISPR only confirmed Ali Khan’s arrest but refused to provide further details. Confirming the arrest, ISPR Director General Major General Athar Abbass said the news was not made public earlier due to pending investigations against the brigadier. Abbas said the brigadier was linked to Hizbul Tahrir, a militant organisation banned by former president Pervez Musharraf in 2003. He said the investigations were at early stages and it was premature to comment any further. He denied any racket of senior military officers having links with militants.
Earlier, talking to a private television channel, Abbas had said Hizbul Tahrir was linked to England, which, according to sources, was a hint at the possible nexus between militants, CIA and officers like Ali Khan. The ISPR DG said no other arrests were made.
The brigadier was reportedly going to retire from his duties at Pakistan Army next month. It is also being probed how a brigadier having linkages with militants got appointed Regulation Directorate, an important military branch that primarily deals with recruitments and human resource issues. Hizbul Tahrir is the same organisation that sends hand-outs and parcels to almost all the journalists of mainstream national media instigating the journalist community to declare ‘Jihad’ against the foreign powers, Pakistani government and Pakistan Army.

Terrorist backed by CIA… no wonder this terrorists can afford to have sophisticated war-fare technology and are often sheltered in Afghanistan…

Re: Pakistan army officer held for ‘links with militants’

http://www.ndu.edu.pk/wings_war_faculty.htmMr Ali Khan was a member of National Defence University, the same university from where New York Times got some anonymous person provide them with Kayani’s statement that Pakistan has been mortgaged to the US (although all members had pledged that nothing from that meeting will go out). Was he the mole who provided Americans with that info, a member of the double dealers which are creating problems for the army?
