Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Irfan has been ruled out of Pakistan’s short limited-overs trip to South Africa this month due to injury. Another quick bowler Wahab Riaz, who went wicketless in three ODIs against South Africa in the UAE, has been dropped. Two players, medium-pace bowling allrounder Bilawal Bhatti and fast bowler Anwar Ali, were added to the limited-overs squad which lost the T20s 2-0 and the ODIs 4-1 to South Africa in the UAE.
Bhatti is one of the few prospects from Pakistan’s domestic circuit in recent years, forging a reputation with his all-round play. He has been in national contention for the last two years, but was left behind on the back of an injury he sustained last year. He is one of the few nippy bowler in Pakistan who can bat fluently, and has two first-class hundreds to his name for domestic side, Sui National Gas Pipelines Ltd.
While there has been a reshuffle in the bowling, it is the batting that has repeatedly let Pakistan down in recent series, a department in which there were no major changes.
Anwar, 25, made a name for himself during Pakistan’s successful Under-19 World Cup campaign in Sri Lanka in 2006, and has played three T20s for Pakistan so far, the most recent being on the Zimbabwe tour in August.
Squad: Misbah-ul-Haq (captain ODI), Mohammad Hafeez (captain T20), Ahmed Shehzad, Umar Akmal (wk), Umar Amin, Shahid Afridi, Abdul Razzaq, Shoaib Malik, Sohaib Maqsood, Sohail Tanvir, Anwar Ali, Junaid Khan, Saeed Ajmal, Abdur Rehman, Nasir Jamshed, Asad Shafiq, Bilawal Bhatti

Re: Pakistan announces squad for SA series

I agree with the selection of Razzaq. would go easy on him. He clearly looked a bit rusty having not played international cricket for a while

One should not have very high hopes from the team in the reverse series in SA. can't see us winning a single match esp. an ODI with the present batting

Re: Pakistan announces squad for SA series

I am delighted for Anwar Ali (daddy of swing during U19 world cup), he needs to be given time, i am sure he can become a good bowler.

Re: Pakistan announces squad for SA series

as long as these THREE factors are playing a huge role in PCB, the team will NOT rise to the occasion and win a game for Pakistan:

1. Corruption
2. Nepotism
3. Political interference

if the above reasons are removed, there is no reason why Pak can NOT win big games.

Re: Pakistan announces squad for SA series

Corruption is not stopping Pakistan from winning matches. It is irresponsible batting now for a number of years, our bowling is not an issue. Those factors you have mentioned are preventing domestic Cricketers from coming through to the national side on merit only.

Re: Pakistan announces squad for SA series

so, you deny there is NO corruption, nepotism, favoritism, political peddling in PCB, after all they are the ones who select a team...why they are selecting tried and failed players? why don't they give chance to new players and better players?

Re: Pakistan announces squad for SA series

Did you read what i wrote? I didn't deny those points you raised don't exist, they do but I don't agree with you when you wrote that those factors have prevented Pakistan from winning matches.

Re: Pakistan announces squad for SA series

Agree Khalil,
PCB and pakistan cricket will be in a fast downward spiral until those 3 things are eliminated.

Re: Pakistan announces squad for SA series

Plus you need someone who has a good eye for talent. Talent spotting is just as important as eliminating above biases (regional + political). The present selectors are clearly blind

Saeed Ajmal and in particular Irfan and Zulfiqar Babar were handed debut far too late

Re: Pakistan announces squad for SA series

I dont understand how much you know about Pakistan Cricket??

Re: Pakistan announces squad for SA series

I am Sick of Sohail tanvir iss se jan kyun nhi chuti

Re: Pakistan announces squad for SA series

agree...that's what Yusuf and Sho'aib said in an interview with Sikandar BaKht and suggested that the great players of the past identify and nominate the budding cricketers in Pakistan. i think it's a good idea.

lol...i'm trying to learn as much as i can...i was disconnected with cricket for the last 13 years, since i came to Canada, and i started watching games during the World Cup. 2011 and i'm just catching up. :)

Re: Pakistan announces squad for SA series

I know all about others but Sohail Tanvir (Great All rounder) Parchi please :frusty:

Re: Pakistan announces squad for SA series

i am shocked that Mohammad hafeez got selected in the team again. he should not have selected in the squad he had got enough chances and yet he is unable to perform

Re: Pakistan announces squad for SA series

^ Welcome to Gupshup Arif…

Unfortunately Hafeez is being considered “future captain”, they can’t drop the “promising, rising” captain /sarcasm.

Re: Pakistan announces squad for SA series

Mubarak ho. Malik & Razzaq returning home due to injury, or whatever the reason might be. I am glad that they wont be playing. They completely looked clueless in UAE matches, evident by the bowled of Razzaq in T20 - he was leaving the ball like he came to play a test match.
I hope this means either a chance for a new youngster to fly-in or more chances for the like of Bilawal Bhatti as an allrounder in the team.

Re: Pakistan announces squad for SA series

no practice in SA environment, straight T20 tomorrow?

Re: Pakistan announces squad for SA series

i just heard on Dunyaa News that Sho’aib Malik and Razzaq have been declared UNFIT for the series…it’s big blow i suppose.

**OR, are they really unfit? whats up with PCB?

**here is the news bit on Dawn News.
