good thing they dropped azhar mehmood guy looked so unfit and fat,he struggled to bowl 5 overs ..you can't afford to have another half fit guy in the team.a great decision to include kaneria on those sort of wickets he could be an asset.however not such a wise decision to include rana in teh squad hes going for a few too many runs, may be sami or rahman would have been a better option.
It all depends on fitness and focus of players. Shoaib will recover, otherwise he is done for good from International Cricket. Since WC’03, it is the chemistry and self-believe of the team that got’em this far.
Noteable Accomplishments of this team;
Draw Test series against India.
Winning One-Day from down 0-2.
Beating South Africa in Test series.
Beating England 2-0 in Test series.
Beating England 3-2 in One Day.
Noteable players that helped us get this far;
Mohammad Yousuf
Inzamam-ul-haq
Younis Khan
Mohammad Asif
Danish Kaneria
Shoaib Malik
Shoaib Akhtar
as expected, no real surprises with the exception of Kaneria.
jokers of the pack.....with no order of merit
Rao Iftikhar
Kamran Akmal
Rana Naved
rest of the players like their joker colleagues will have a free ride to the WI, play the quarters and if lucky semis, thats it. This team has no chance in hell, post worldcup all of will be debating the next four years with hardly any material change.
For all those who love Sami so much for his bowling prowess, this joker is working hard to replace sami.

Naved loses his ODI nous

The tour of South Africa has so far been a dismal one for Rana Naved-ul-Hasan. Given an opportunity to figure in the starting line-up of the first Test at Centurion, Naved repaid the think-tank’s faith by leaking 92 runs from 17 overs in the first innings - he ultimately finished with match figures of 2 for 113 in 24 overs.
Over his 58-match one-day career so far, Naved has had quite a few moments to savour - most notably when he ripped the heart out of India’s powerful line-up at Jamshedpur in 2005 - but in the last year those moments have dried up. In 22 ODIs since January last year, Naved has gone at a run-a-ball or more ten times - as the table below shows both his wicket-taking and run-saving abilities have taken a beating in the last year.

**Naved’s disastrous performances in his last two matches means he is among the most expensive ODI bowlers of all time. His combined analysis of 135 runs from 12 overs in those matches lifted his economy rate from 5.34 to 5.50, which only puts him behind Zimbabwe’s Henry Olonga and Tapash Baisya of Bangladesh in the list of most extravagant ODI bowlers. And if you restrict the analysis to just Pakistan’s bowlers, Naved sits well clear of all other contenders. **
The team annoucement clearly depicts the panic in the PCB ranks. Kaneria has been given a chance and the guy has not been a part of team planning in recent times. Also Imran Nazir has been awarded for just one innings in the last 3 years. EVEN SAM is better then Rao ... If we are extremly lucky we might make it to semi-finals.
Opening again would be a problem in the WC. Unless they switch to Younis Khan opening but then I think that’s where they could have used Yasir Hameed who is not part of the 15 member squad.
We'll probably finish #6 in the Super Eight phase, at the most.
Hopefully that would spell the end of Inzamam and we would then have more opportunities given to the young players...like Z. Haider and Samiullah. No more favoritism.
This squad actually looks worse than the 2003 squad.
But few jokers still being included to go to the World cup: Hafeez, Malik, Akmal, Rana & Rao.
yea Hameed is a joke and hafeez who i like but if u go on merit all he does is score 20 and then get out, Yasir Hameed has played 4 odis in like 2 years, like osman samiuddin reported he scores i think of like, 41, 71, 59, 51, Imran nazir scores a 50 in 1 odi in 3 years and he is picked!
To me it sound like a balance team, Yes I know all the reservatioins; dope test and injury...etc, but overall a balanced team. and NO I am not still in shock after 10 wicket loss to Pakistan in last game :)
I am stumped like anyone else. Rao Iftikhar, what has he done on consistent basis or even in past to get an entry in such an important tournament? Kaneria? Abdul Rahman has bowled really well in chances given thus far. I was hoping to see Azhar and Abdul Rahman in the squad.
I really hope that we dont get to see Rao playing a crucial game against australia or India and our star trio (Asif, Gul and Shoaib) is fit enough not to let anyone else play any important games. When this trio is complimented by Razzaq, Malik and Afridi (it makes a really impressive reading)

Agree if Asif, Gul and Akhtar are fit and backed up by Razzaq, Malik and Afridi then it will make a good team, but then why taking Kaneria and Rao for a free trip to WC, and if those other win WC for Pak then Kaneria and Rao are there just to recieve big checks and plots for winning WC.
The MOST PATHETIC cricket board and the ball less selection committee in the world.
Type of things Woolmer is doing, suggest he is least interested in Pakistan WC glories, e.g. repeatedly accussing Akhtar for faking injuries, asking PCB to do dope tests on players voluntarily, and supporting some old gaurds in Akmal, Razzaq and blocking the way for youngsters like Zalqarnain, Yasir Arafat, Sami Niazi, Mansoor Amjed and Fawad Alam.
Inzi is also least interested in Pak cricket future, rather he wants to play safe for as long as he could, once he leave without grooming any youngsters then he could say he left and now team is in troubles. So Woolmer and Inzi compliment each others well and Bari is providing max support to keep his position with PCB without leaving PIA.

Rao is not a bad bowler, the problem is that he hasn't got chances with consistency, he is called to be a patch up bowler when someone is injured...etc.
Rao and Danish are waste for World Cup. They have not played enough ODI's to be included in the World Cup. I would have gone with Mohammad Sami and Yasir Hameed. Our strike bowlers and openers are the areas where we are having problems, so it is only better to have many options as possible.
Rao and Asif currently our strike bowlers have almost same matches under thier belt but the distinction is latter got a chance with consistency and former didnt.
^ Asif made his chances count. Rao didnt. Simple, really.
While explaining Azhar's exclusion from original probables, Bari cited that Azhar went to SA last timr around and wasnt used at all. I wonder what is he gonna say when Rao and Kaneria end up doing the same.
As for Rao and Asif, let the time speak for itself. As for Azhar's inclusion and exclusion was all waste of time and $$$. As for Kaneria, well the kind of pitches are in WI I think and hope he will get some rewards. however one can argue Rehman could be a better choice, another name comes to mind; Mansoor Amjad is a decent leggie and a handy batsman, well lets hope he is part of future players after WC07.
