Pakistan have picked uncapped left-arm seamer Rumman Raees in their 15-man squad for the World T20 in India, and dropped opener Ahmed Shehzad.

It is a good squad. Delighted to see Shehzad dropped and Mohammed Nawaz added to the squad.

PCB is supposed to get governmental approval in a day or two. let's see.
i think India and Pakistan are playing against each on Feb 29 in Bangladesh...right?

Khurram Manzoor might prove to be another Nasir Jamshed-esque type of bust that happened at the WC 2015....Out of match practice, clueless, etc, since Manzoor was not selected in any PSL team. Iftikhar Ahmed was taken on the NZ tour but never played a single match. I think Rizwan should have been kept instead of Iftikhar in the squad. Glad to see no Shehzad and really happy to see Babar Azam in there. He is a future star for sure inshaAllah. Extremely glad to see no Sohail Tanvir, phew !!!

I think Saeed Ajmal should be there in the side. Atleast it could be great farewell to him.

Rizwan should consider himself very unlucky (however he hasn’t really done much with the bat of late). I would have included Ajmal as well

There are actually not one but TWO parchis in the T20 squad. not sure if Manzoor deserved to be selected.
i.e. instead of Manzoor and Iftikhar, I would have picked Rizwan and Ajmal

I doubt Manzoor is parchi though...cuz he hasn't played for Pakistan in limited formats for years. If he had parchi, he would have surfaced much earlier and nagged us for much longer...like the Imran Farhat's of this generation. I think the Selectors are clueless how to solve the opening problem, so they called on Manzoor...a veteran opener. I mean, they tried Rafatullah Mohammad for 3 T20s & reverted to Shehzad in the next series and yet Rafatullah didnt get selected by any PSL team. Rizwan for Iftikhar was a no-brainer (but no brains to be found in Selection Committee). Rizwan being the best fielder in the team as well.

The selectors might have been tempted to drop Anwer Ali as well because of his wayward bowling and recent indifferent performances but glad that they resisted any knee-jerk reaction. Anwer Ali has got the talent and potential to succeed in the T20 format at least but he needs to convert that talent into consistent performances. He might be the all-rounder we are looking for in T20. A capable batsman and good fielder but he needs to tighten up his bowling. bowls too many loose deliveries every over.

Its very clear that atleast three players are completely out of form, all three played for Karachi Kings:
Shoaib Malik, Imad Wasim, Iftikhar.
And you can include Afridi's batting and Khurram Manzoor as well who were practically non-existent.
This leads to bigger worries now that Pakistani batting lineup would be a complete flop and would remain be the team struggling to survive all 20 overs.

Hindsight is 20/20 but clearly there are some names (Iftikhar, Khurram, Raees) there which are quite controversial. Malik too is woefully out of form.
Sami, Sharjeel (Is Khurram really better than him?) and Rizwan should all consider themselves very unlucky.

On second thoughts:
Manzoor (now that he has been selected) should be given a chance before being dropped. It is only fair!
However would replace
Iftikhar (absolute garbage) with Sharjeel
Raees (too limited) with Sami
Mohammad Sami is a must for Pakistan's tour of England this Summer. Amer, Sami and Wahab/Irfan with Yasir Shah (+/- Nawaz) should be our bowling attack against England.

Iftikhar was a well respected actor in the 70s.
Am so happy Mr. Selfie has been dropped...but I think if possible they may tweek this squad a bit...Afridi seemed to be hinting at getting SHARJEEL into the squad at today's PSL award ceremony...

‘I think, you think, we think, he thinks, they think’ ... fact is that, everyone thinking can have biases, discrimination, injustices, nepotism, like/dislike, provincialism, bradarism, recommendation-culture and so on. A player seems slogger to one, fluke, cross batter or whatever to others ... while one may think that a player is talented, others might think that same player is worthless ... but in the end, fact is the Average runs a player makes over many innings and their Strike rates, Economy rate (if game is limited overs) is most important. Fielding and catching can be taken into account too.
I do not care how a player make runs, hitting sixes or taking singles, slogging or playing proper cricket shots, as long as a particular batsman is making on average more runs than other batsman per innings, that particular batsman is better than other batsman. Same goes for bowlers.
All players of a country play in domestic cricket and when judging players and comparing them, similar ‘condition, background and situation’ can only be found in domestic cricket. Thus, domestic cricket is best judge for national players, and that should be criteria for team selection.
One should acknowledge that if a player ‘A’ is better than player ‘B’ in domestic cricket, than their performance figures would be better than player ‘B’ in domestic cricket too. There is no reason that a player ‘B’ is better than ‘A’, but have lower Average than ‘A’ (or lower SR than ‘A’) in domestic cricket. Simple as that.
It is true that things like, some team in domestic cricket might regularly face team with good bowlers (so their batsman Ave drops) or face good batsman (so their bowlers Ave go bad) … but in a country where there is so much discrimination, provincialism, nepotism, biases, like/dislike, recommendations, such discrepancy can be ignored. (Though taking this into account, Karachi batsmen would get up-grade, as most good bowlers are coming from north Punjab).
I believe that if a player has good performance in domestic cricket (over last 10 games he performed) than that would show in his averages and strike rate, and than that player should be selected for national team over those who have lower performance figures (Average, SR, etc), regardless of 'I think, he thinks, you think, we think or they think'.
If a player is incapable in international matches than his Ave and SR over last 10 games would drop, and then other players would get chance ... as international runs, wickets, SR, etc .. gets included in domestic figures .. for instance FC figures include test, List A figures include ODIs, and Twenty20 figures include T20Is.

Agreed with that, it should all be about performance and nothing else. It will actually serve both ways as it would exert pressure on seniors to perform or go home.
And by this rule Afridi, Shehzad, Shoaib malik, Akmal etc would have long gone
Strongly think Pakistan should make changes in the T20 squad ASAP especially in the batting lineup. The names selected right now suck!
