Pakistan and the US Presidential Campaign Debate

**

Some highligts of the third and the final US Presidential Campaign Debate at the Lynn University, Boca Raton, Florida:**

**Obama on Abbottabad raid:
**“If we had asked Pakistan (for) permission, we would not have gotten him.”

Romney on Abbottabad raid: **
“We had to go into Pakistan. We had to go in there to get Osama Bin Laden. That was the right thing to do.”
**
Romney on drones:

“It’s widely reported that drones are being used in drone strikes, and I support that… entirely and feel the president was right to up the usage of that technology. I would maintain drone strikes in Pakistan if I defeat Obama. I would also impose conditions on aid to Islamabad.”
**
Romey on more raids:**
“The United States should continue to go after the people that represent a threat to this nation and to our friends. But we’re going to have to do more than just going after leaders and killing bad guys.”

Romney on Pakistan’s government:
“It’s a nation that’s not like others and it does not have a civilian leadership that is calling the shots there.”

Romney on ties with Pakistan:
“It’s not time to divorce a nation on Earth that has 100 nuclear weapons and is on the way to double that at some point, a nation that has serious threats from terrorist groups within its nation. We do need to make sure that, as we send support for them, that this is tied to them making progress on matters that would lead them to becoming a civil society.”

We will need to learn to live with drones happily as no one in the US seems to be listening to cries from Pakistan or read American independent research reports on drone attacks.

Re: Pakistan and the US Presidential Campaign Debate

Hope they will listen it on 26th party
But
I am afraid
It will be actually a 'Chanda' collecting party

Re: Pakistan and the US Presidential Campaign Debate

yes it will be business (read drones) as usual for pakistan, or rest of the world for that matter.

obama or romney: "same sh!t, different animals"

Re: Pakistan and the US Presidential Campaign Debate

I supported Obama last time but expectde him to be a bit more sensible than Bush but he disappointed. Romney is going to be even worse i guess so don't care about US elections anymore. At least Obama pretends to care about Pakistan.

Re: Pakistan and the US Presidential Campaign Debate

Doesn't matter who it is. American foreign policy stays the same.

Re: Pakistan and the US Presidential Campaign Debate

I don't think it would matter much to Pakistan. The policies regarding Pakistan would remain the same.

Re: Pakistan and the US Presidential Campaign Debate

In other words, they are hoping for another puppet government like the current one, which can be paid off while they happily kill civilians by the dozens. Drone attacks do not happen without the approval of the Pak govt. Musharraf allowed them. PPP has allowed them. Dont go by the pre-recorded "drones are not good" statement from Rahman Malik and Zardari.

If the parliament passes a binding resolution, at least our government will have a stance which they can take to the UN. But our parliament intentionally passed a non-binding resolution, because they dont want to jeopardize the 'aid' they get from the US. If there is no aid, how would Zardari pay the bills for his Paris chateau, and his kids university fees?
