Pakistan among top countries for offshore outsourcing: Gartner

ISLAMABAD: As a result of the policy initiatives taken by the government to position the country as an offshore destination of choice, Pakistan has become a major player in the global Information Technology (IT) industry.

Gartner, the world’s leading information technology research and advisory company has placed Pakistan amongst the top countries of the world in terms of suitability for offshore outsourcing. Pakistan has been recognized by the global community as ‘Market Leaders and Challengers’ and has been placed in the First Category countries in 2007. Previously, in 2006 Pakistan was placed in the Third Category countries.

Gartner, in its recent report ‘Analysis of Pakistan as an Offshore Service Location’ said the major factor behind the progressing status of Pakistan is the lower salaries and better infrastructure advantages than other offshore destinations. “The salaries of IT professionals in Pakistan are approximately 30% lower than those in India, while telecommunication costs are also lower as compared to any other offshore locations, which make Pakistan an attractive outsourcing destination.”

Based on a total of ten criterion, including language, government support, labour pool, infrastructure, education system, cost, political and economic environment, cultural compatibility, global and legal maturity, data and intellectual property security and privacy, Gartner rated Pakistan as ‘very good’ in cost, ‘good’ in language and ‘fair’ in most of the areas despite the prevailing political environment.

According to Gartner research report, government of Pakistan has devised a comprehensive national IT policy, designed to encourage the private sector. In order to drive development, Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) plans to construct new IT parks in major cities while 750,000 square feet of space in PSEB-designated parks has already been leased to IT companies.

“The government is doing a great job of initiating activities in positioning Pakistan as an offshore location, however, it needs to take concrete steps to improve its brand image as an offshore destination,” the report adds.

It may be mentioned here that a number of Pakistani IT companies have developed world class software in areas such as car leasing, enterprise application integration, mortgage lien processing, stock market order management, mobile convergence, data and web content management for some of the top most corporations of the world. staff report

Re: Pakistan among top countries for offshore outsourcing: Gartner

... i wonder where are the group members .... googling i think.. :D

Re: Pakistan among top countries for offshore outsourcing: Gartner

Why do you need group members comments. Its a nice news, and I hope it happens that companies come here for business.

This report highlights on the issues which it seems are important, e.g. salaries , telecom infrastructure. I dont think they took into account for Electricity or resources. Not every company can run its infrastructure on generators or self managed power stations.

But my dear with literally no electricity, water and food, who can do good business. Just see the current condition of the state.

Re: Pakistan among top countries for offshore outsourcing: Gartner

God Bless Pakistan. God Bless President Musharaf for improving Pakistan, and making Pakistan a great place to do business. :k:

You are right. If Political situation is stable Pakistan would be the most preferred destination.

BENGALURU, India — India remains the global leader for offshore services, though China, Russia and Brazil are emerging as credible alternatives, a survey found.

According to Gartner Inc., spending to offshore jobs is expected to grow by 40 percent in the U.S. and by 60 percent in Europe during 2008.

Ian Marriott, Gartner’s vice president of research, said its offshoring study measured ten criteria, including language, government support, infrastructure, education, political and economic environment, cultural compatibility as well as intellectual property protection.

Gartner found that the top locations in the Americas were Argentina, Brazil, Canada and Chile. Australia, China, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Vietnam topped the Asia-Pacific.

In Europe, the top loccations were the Czech Republic, Hungary, Ireland and Israel.

Though China is India’s biggest challenger in terms of its ability to scale, China fell short in the survey due to language skills. Still, China, India and Singapore showed strong government support for promoting offshoring services. Political and economic concerns were greatest for companies seeking to ship jobs to Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. Australia, New Zealand and Singapore led the way for political and economic stability along with cultural compatibility, legal maturity and IP rights.

“The aim of the study was not to rank each country, as every organization will have a different view of which factors are the most important for their needs, but rather help sourcing managers determine which locations are right for their organizations,” Marriott said.

Thanks denada!

In Pakistan we have the necessary ground work ready. The last remaining thing is to lock up the anarchist vermin for good.

It is time for Pak government to crack down on terrorists of every color left or right. It doesn’t matter if they are Islamists or liberals. Doesn’t matter. They all are anarchists.

If Dubai can crack down on Islamist vermin, or Singapore can whip the graffiti painters, then why are we allowing anarchists to thrive in Pakistan.

Things are pointing in the right direction recently.

Islamist anarchists are on the run in Swat.
Liberal anarchists will be tied up in the coming months.

This is the only way forward for Pakistan and become a developed progressive state. And if the West make noises, then so be it.

Re: Pakistan among top countries for offshore outsourcing: Gartner

nice news! After the scum militants get their butt sent up to God, things would start getting more peaceful for both countries hopefully.

Re: Pakistan among top countries for offshore outsourcing: Gartner

There will never be stability so long as Musharaf is in power... Time for him to step down.

Re: Pakistan among top countries for offshore outsourcing: Gartner

indeed, thanks to musharraf we have had a revolution in the economy and massive job creation and long may it continue.

Re: Pakistan among top countries for offshore outsourcing: Gartner

If the hog Musharraf lets go of power, I am sure it will be a very stable and great place for them to do so.

Re: Pakistan among top countries for offshore outsourcing: Gartner

When did this happen in Dubai? I didn't know Dubai had similar issues. But good that they are cracking down.

Regarding the news, it is good, but I am sure people change their mind as soon as they hear some negative news about Pakistan. Maybe I will believe it, when I open Business Week or Wallstreet Journal, and there are Pakistan related news items (positive ones) in the business section, rather than the World News section. Just about every week Business Week has several articles about India.

Re: Pakistan among top countries for offshore outsourcing: Gartner

Once again dream land. We has great political stability under NS and BB right? Fact is that Pakistan's stability has only taken a beating once the 2 ghadddar politicians came back to Pakistan. Mush should never have let them back in. We were doing pretty god without NS and BB.

Re: Pakistan among top countries for offshore outsourcing: Gartner

There was more stability in Pakistan since 99 to at least 05, despite the al qaeda attacks. Far more than anytime during the BB-NS era.

Re: Pakistan among top countries for offshore outsourcing: Gartner

Oh and theres been great stability in Pakistan after 1999, are you ok? 2001-2002, a massive panga with India, war like situation, after that the mishandling of the Afghanistan mess and rigging to make the MMA etc get seats to form a hung parliament, causing more chaos, and now Pakistan being labelled as the most dangerous place in the world, even ahead of Iraq! Mushtardation can really blind people!

Re: Pakistan among top countries for offshore outsourcing: Gartner

Really? Well that was then and this is now.. Now everyone is protesting, suicide bombs are going of left and right and all we have is a complete mess. We are in such a situation that now we have to contemplate civil war... So it over, time for Mush to cash in his chips.

Re: Pakistan among top countries for offshore outsourcing: Gartner

LOL. Once again your lack of understanding of global political situation, and what happened in 1999, and between 2001-2002 shines through. Keep talking, its fun. :D

Re: Pakistan among top countries for offshore outsourcing: Gartner

That's so true!

Re: Pakistan among top countries for offshore outsourcing: Gartner

You are only good at TC, are you forgetting the war like scenario the dictator created in 2002 with India? Stability my left nut!

Re: Pakistan among top countries for offshore outsourcing: Gartner

I guess anti-Pak people should blame Gartner for putting such a hoax.

Darn it! How dare Gartner say anything positive about Pakistan. Have they gone mad?

Gartner must follow liberal anarchists' line by refusing to publish anything that remotely resembles Pakistan's praise.

Re: Pakistan among top countries for offshore outsourcing: Gartner

Sarcasm isnt your cup of tea, my multi-nicked friend.
