Pakistan all set for non-stop cricket in 2007-08 season

Pakistan will be playing 8 tests and 18 ODI’s against South Africa, India, Zimbabwe and Australia during September 2007 and March 2008. And this is not the end. Right after the Australia series, Pakistan will be competing in the Asia cup as well in April 2008. This will bring the ODI’s count well above 20

Pakistan set for hectic time

The non-stop itineraries for Pakistan and India are set to continue after it was confirmed that they will play each other later this year and there’ll be more offshore matches between the two countries.

The Indian board has sent Pakistan a draft itinerary for their tour, which is trying to be squeezed in before India head to Australia in mid-December. Pakistan’s tour of India was cemented after Pakistan and Australia agreed to play a series in Pakistan from early March 2008.

Saleem Altaf, the PCB’s director of cricket operations, said the PCB had asked the BCCI to cut down on the amount of traveling involved in the tour after problems during the 2005 visit.

“We will sort out everything soon and hopefully this time the travelling distances would not be like last time,” said Altaf before explaining about the offshore ODIs. “We have a verbal agreement with the Indian board to play them in minimum 12 or 15 one-dayers at off shore venues over the next five years. We want to move forward on that.”

He added Pakistan would tour India from November 2, immediately after Australia completed a one-day series of seven matches in October. The Australians would then tour Pakistan from March 9, 2008 after which the Asia Cup will be held from April 24. Pakistan would also host South Africa from September 25 this year and Zimbabwe for three one-dayers in January 2008.

Re: Pakistan all set for non-stop cricket in 2007-08 season

Wonder what Shoaib Akhtar has to say about this :cb:

Seriously though, talk about overkill! Is there any clause in the ICC that gives teams some mandatory time off? This is bad news for cricketers and their personal lives.

Re: Pakistan all set for non-stop cricket in 2007-08 season

I am planning to quit following cricket after WC and here comes 2007/08 schedule for Pak full of cricket.

Re: Pakistan all set for non-stop cricket in 2007-08 season

Above schedule is a recipe for disaster, when S. Altaf said “they will sort out everything…” I am sure he wasn’t talking about the burden on players, which is dissappointing for sure. I am sure this will give birth to 2 separate teams (ODI and Test).

So they will be flying in- and -out many players from a series :smack:

Need that thing in black and white..!

Re: Pakistan all set for non-stop cricket in 2007-08 season

Cricketers are such sissies. God forbid if they have to work 20 days in a year (20 ODIs)! There bodies are too delicate to be put through that torture.. they start suffering from over-work, fatigue, injuries, etc. Maybe I should go talk to my boss and and ask him to let me work only 20-30 days a year with full pay and benefits.

Re: Pakistan all set for non-stop cricket in 2007-08 season

Pakistan is scheduled to host South Africa from September 25 for 2 tests and 5 ODI series which will end towards the end of October. Prior to that they will be participating in Twenty 20 World Cup and thus will be in South Africa atleast till September 20 (that is when the Super 8 round will end).

After playing 5 tests, 10 ODIs and 5-7 Twenty 20 games in 3 months, Pakistan will host Zimbabwe for a 3 ODI series in January 2008 and Australia for 3 tests and 5 ODIs series in February-March '08.

Pakistan will be hosting Asia Cup in April 2008. The tournament will feature Pakistan, India, Srilanka, Bangladesh, Oman, and UAE.

Re: Pakistan all set for non-stop cricket in 2007-08 season

Look forward to It, we don't play enough TEST cricket anyway. I hope we play more TEST cricket in the future and cut down on the ODI's. Why not play a five match TEST series like England & Aussies. If International cricketers can't hack the heat of the calendar then make way for others who will put theirn head down and get on with It.

Re: Pakistan all set for non-stop cricket in 2007-08 season

Have I missed something or what?! Who (Where) is Pak's Couch.
I myself think, It's something they taking to long to react at.
Or are we that good now, so that there is no need for one?

Re: Pakistan all set for non-stop cricket in 2007-08 season

Inzi is gone so the "Couch" has been taken away, when contacted Shoaib Malik claimed all his team mates are ok with regular chairs :D

Re: Pakistan all set for non-stop cricket in 2007-08 season

That would make some sense regarding PCB and Pak Cricket "Thinking" :D
