Pakistan Air Force bombs Swat areas; kills 21 militants

More firepower being brought to crush the militants - excellent. I hope we see more of this coming in the future.

One thing I don't understand is how Mullah Radio is still alive & calling for jihad in Swat on radio. I mean the guy is on radio everyday...how hard is it to trace him and take him out?

How do they know they killed 21 people; did they count the number they killed?

It is complicated my friend. There is a large portion of Pakistanis who "Believe" they are living through a time of Islam vs. Kufr. And they must support Islam. Thus in the name of Islam Pakistanis are willing to abet and perpetrate terror and the terrorists like Mullah radio roam free. He probably finds enough supporters to hide him from the government.

Unfortunately there is no defense against religious wars. People will sacrifice themselves before handing over terrorists. So we are in for a long war unless a ruthless leader comes in and with shear brutality forces people to forget their alligences with terrorists.

The experiment of Columbia against Pablo escobar proves that "black squads" can in fact defeat terror. But who in Pakistan has a "national commitment" to form such squads?

That my friend is the actual question, he did not arise overnight..Musharraf and his allies in the establishment were being warned by loads of people as far back as 4 years ago. Why the establishment allowed militants to build up in the tribal areas and why they ignored countless warnings about the situation in swat and elsewhere ..is the real question..because that policy has led to the present situation

It really isn't that complicated. He ran away after a fight against our military in one area (Swat?) last year (I think) just like Mullah Omar ran away from Tora Bora mountains on a bike.

Nice job. I've heard Swat militants are especially 'foreign trained fake mullahs' actually on a mission to destabalize that area to kill tourism (specifically to that area).

cant quite bring myself to say excellent. the bomb doest make the distinction between a nut job and innocent bystander. although i think they might have somewhat evacuated the area?

I doubt it. Even the government sources stated 5 civilians were killed. It can't be helped though. If militants base themselves using civilian presence as human shields, that must unfortunately not be allowed to stand in the way of eliminating this threat to Pakistan.

what about using alternative strategies rather than bombing the area? getting on the ground?
