Pakistan achieves high growth due to economic reforms PM Economics 10/30/2007 4:24:00 PM
ISLAMABAD, Oct 30 (KUNA) – Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said Tuesday that the countrys economic progress and reforms led to higher growth rate and per capita income and lower poverty. Pakistans structural reforms agenda as well as good governance were the key drivers to transform the economy and put the country on the path of high growth, development and prosperity, he said, while talking to Shuja Shah, Executive Director, World Bank.
A press statement quoted him as saying that Pakistan valued its relationship with development partners, particularly the World Bank, which had increased its assistance to about USD 1.5 billion per year for investment in infrastructure, health, education and to continue the process of reforms.
He appreciated the role of World Bank in assisting Pakistan and said the operation should enhance and expand to undertake major infrastructure projects including construction of big dams, road network as well as improve the social sector particularly health and education facilities.
On Monday, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Dr. Shamshad Akhtar said that Pakistans economy grew at an impressive rate of 7 percent during fiscal year 2006-2007 and might achieve its economic growth target of 7.2 percent in fiscal year ending in June 2008.
