Humiliation for Pakistan Academy

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Aug 11: Pakistan Academy began their short tour of South Africa on a losing note when National Academy thrashed them by 10 wickets at Lc de Villiers Oval-1 in Pretoria on Monday.

According to a message received here, Pakistan Academy were forced to follow on after being dismissed for 239 in their first innings in response to 436 scored by the hosts. Batting for a second time, Pakistan Academy fared even worse, capitulating to 197 and barely avoided an innings defeat.

The only bright spot in Pakistan Academy’s second innings was a fighting knock of 79 by left-hander Asim Kamal. He faced 131 deliveries. Salman Butt, the left-handed opener, followed his first innings’ 80 with 33. National Academy were left to chase just one run for victory.

Shucks.......

Let them learn from their defeat. :)

Something losing is better then wining....

Something losing is better then wining, I hope they learn from their mistake and player better next time.

Yep!

kewl, so he has been putting in decent scores throughout the tour!!

I’ve been following his game for quite a while now (since the U-19 world cup) and am more than convinced he’s a future star if (or should it be when) picked for Pakistan. :k:

Yep..and the PCB is having a thought these days to give a break to Salman Butt in the 3rd Test match against Bangladesh @ Multan. He’s a top contender rightnow.

In the process of re-building we haven’t really found a solid opener. This has been our problem for years and when our opening pair collasped, it shakes up our Middle-Order bigtime. Salman Butt is my top choice. In this tour of South Africa, he has made 330+ runs.

Fahad Masood, a right-arm medium pacer, who has been very devasting in the South Africa tour, took 6 wickets for 26 runs in 6 overs. So, in order to find a talent, Pakistan doesn’t face any problems at all. Once the PCB management gets everything right, we’re in a good shape…be it Sr. Pakistan team, U-19, U-15 or Pakistan ‘A’.

BTW, Pakistan ‘A’ has beaten South Africa ‘A’ in the 3rd & Final ODI by 126 runs… Congrats… :hula:

Mashallah. It seems like PAK A is way better team and one can atleast count on them that they will fight back. PT bhai khush kar dita  BTW score card ka link hai?

Thanx. :jhanda: and Salman Butt :k:

A little correction. Pakistan ‘A’ won 3rd ODI by 122 runs, not 126 runs as I stated above. With that victory, Pakistan ‘A’ has won the ODI series as well.

teaser here you go, the scorecard you asked for it.

Pakistan Academy win series

Skipper Faisal Iqbal weighed in with an undefeated 79. His 68-ball innings contained five fours and three sixes.

South Africa Academy were never in the hunt after Fahad Masood destroyed the top-order batting. The medium-pacer returned excellent analysis of six for 26 as the home side were all out for 156 in 34.2 overs.

M. Smith, however, restored some pride for his team by hitting eight fours and a six in making 67, while M. Harris struck 43.

Leg-spinner Mansoor Amjad claimed two for 28.

  • **Summarised scores:

  • PAKISTAN ACADEMY:** 278-4 in 50 overs (Salman Butt 107, Faisal Iqbal 79 not out, Faisal Athar 31, Naved Latif 20 not out);

  • SOUTH AFRICA ACADEMY:** 156 in 34.2 overs (M. Smith 67, M. Harris 43; Fahad Masood 6-26, Mansoor Amjad 2-28).

To summarize this tour of South Africa, the Pakistan Academy lost the four-day match by 1-0 but won the 3 ODI series by 2-1. So the tour was even. Some good results came across. Salman Butt has been discovered as an opener potential and Fahad Masood as a medium pacer. Two future prospects of Pakistan Cricket.

Also, Faisal Iqbal, Faisal Athar & Junaid Zia found their form.
