Pakistan a poor country?

Large Iron, Copper, Gold, Nickel and Cobalt reserves discovered in Chiniot alongwith high grade coal in Mianwali, couple that with coal from Thar, Saindak (Gold), RekoDik (Gold and Copper) and North Waziristan (Gold). Huge capacity for utilizing coal, gas and hydel sources for producing energy for future use. Agriculture techniques can be further improved to raise revenue, cheap (trained) labour but then why Pakistan is still a poor country??? Is it only a case of mismanagement, lack of vision and political will to develop the country?

Re: Pakistan a poor country?

countries don't become wealthy by selling ore/minerals. even if it was possible, is that really the economic model you aspire to?

national wealth requires a diversified base of competitive industries comprised of quality companies. creating that industrial base requires a variety of inputs...but political stability and a national focus on achieving this goal are two macro level inputs missing in pakistan. without these, nothing else matters. it is not due to ineffective mining of copper and cobalt.

Re: Pakistan a poor country?

how much hours u spend every day pondering over problems of pakistan:D

Re: Pakistan a poor country?

^ considering the law and order situation, energy problems this is Pakistan’s economy which can be further improved if the situation improves. We need to further develop our industries, agriculture, IT sector and then utilize the minerals (Australia a first world country is only rich because of its resources and agriculture products) to diversify the sources of revenue.

Economy of Pakistan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

*The economy of Pakistan is the 47th largest in the world in nominal terms and 27th largest in the world in terms of purchasing power parity (PPP). Pakistan has a semi-industrialized economy, which mainly encompasses textiles, chemicals, food processing, agriculture and other industries. Growth poles of Pakistan’s economy are situated along the Indus River;diversified economies of Karachi and Punjab’s urban centers coexist with lesser developed areas in other parts of the country. The economy has suffered in the past from decades of internal political disputes, a fast growing population, mixed levels of foreign investment, and a costly, ongoing confrontation with neighboring India. However, IMF-approved government policies, bolstered by foreign investment and renewed access to global markets, have generated solid macroeconomic recovery the last decade. Substantial macroeconomic reforms since 2000, most notably at privatizing the banking sector have helped the economy.

sentences like

*Pakistan ma kia rakha hay *etc will not help.

Trend is very encouraging, the youth is / educated masses are waking up and there is now only a minority who supports the ppp/mqm/PPP thugs in educated circles. Re: Pakistan a poor country?

Great job stating the obvious.

Re: Pakistan a poor country?

the thread offered a bizarre contrarian view on the issue of pakistan's poorness. if people think unmined non-precious metal reserves are the solution to pakistan's economic backwardness than obviously what i stated is not obvious enough.

Re: Pakistan a poor country?

How many universities do we have in top 1,000 of the world?

Re: Pakistan a poor country?

Re: Pakistan a poor country?

^ Rate the world universities according to HEC's criteria, or any other ratings methodology and let me know the answer and that's the answer to the OP's question.

We cannot really expect to develop without spending anything on education.

Re: Pakistan a poor country?

We all understand that un-mined resources are not necessarily a source of income. I assume it obvious that anything that isnt being actively exploited for profit, is not going to be earning profit by the nature of its existence alone.

The point of this thread is to be inspirational. Its doesn't presume to be anything more. Its simply says we have the resources and the means to potential create a prosperous country.

Re: Pakistan a poor country?

^ Got to agree with Med. These resources are assets that have been recently discovered. If I were to draw an equivalency with stocks, you can have a company with poor management but lots of assets. So while the company may be poorly run, a change of management can lead to significant better performance. Ditto with the situation here. If the leadership is changed in the future for the better, these assets will provide a better standard of living. Nickel and cobalt will find lots of industrial use, including Li-ion batteries.

Good luck!
