My love for the country on one side but I have to say it as I see it.
A country where:
ethnic and intra and inter religion target killing is everyday affair
people who migrated to this country in search of a peaceful haven still claim a separate identity and are recognized as a separate ethnic group after 60 years
people having separatist agenda win elections
lawyers open fire on opponents and 7 people got killed at a rally held to protest beating of a former minister.
Can hardly be called a melting pot.
I would love you to prove me wrong.
Most of Punjabis and Pashtoons are Aryans(caucasian) and other races(Sindhi, Mohajir) have Dravidian(Indian) blood in them- I don't know if that makes Pakistan a melting pot.
^ What's wrong with what I said.. recenty a study was done in Pakistan and it was concluded that Gujjars hail from Eastern Europe. Other zaats can find their origins somewhere in Central Asia and Europe.. That Pakistan was is a melting pot of Central Asian and Eurooean nomad tribes is a well-known fact
^ I read that somehere on the web, it was some academic institute.. I will try to locate that... I think the gene pool of pakistan is quite diverse it includes, Turks, Arabs, Persians, Central Asians, Dravidians, Africans, Indians.. I won't be suprised if we had martian genes in us :)

^ I don't know where the self-delusion is coming from, but its pretty baseless. If anything, Sindhis and Punjabis are more closely linked together. There are Aryans in India, so you can't call them just Dravidians.
While Mohajirs might be more pure Aryans or Semites than many Pakistanis. So these assertions might be a good work of fiction.
You guys must be walking around with blinkers on!! LalaMoosa is right. If you start from North Pakistan and make your way across the subcontinent down to Kolkata, you will see how people change, from very fair Aryan like North Paks through to short darker skinned, people of East and South India. Skin color changes hair color and texture and height. North India, now Pakistan was invaded for thousands of years by the Europeans and the Near East.
Thread is not about what happend in the past , and it is also not about historical references to roots of Pakistanies.
The thread is about:
Is Pakistan a melting pot ?
Are various ethnicities mixing togather and ultimately we will live in peace togather ?

USA have more ethinc mixes than we do, Canada is building a mixed society most of them are living in peace and harmony, even people from Pakistan abroad live in peace... i don't think so any one have a problem on the racial/ethinic grounds...
Case in Pakistan is different in some different scenario, the leadership of Pakistan and of almost all the political parties is not capable of having a job of peon in a reputed firm. These people cannot deliver the prosperity and harmony to the society as they are not capable of doing so..
Instead they have based their political stand-off on the element of Fear and Haterdness, they have created issues which and they work hard to not to solve it. the Geniune problems in a common Pakistani's life is these leaders.
May it be some leader selling the name of Islam or a leadership looting people in the name of Secularism or color of their skin or the language they speak.
As i said, ethinic, religious haterdness, is the tool of todays leadership in Pakistan, it is easy to use, and heard louder, even louder when few dozens are killed.
I have reasons to believe that in so called ethinic violence, people are being killed by their own kind.. so it is not ethinic or religous difference, it is pure money issue.
Pakistan is a country with people from various races. Hence, you have different cultures, languages and even looks. I think it's a pity that there is no solidarity between the Pakistani people - too focused on race and color instead of accepting that people come from different backgrounds and languages and what really unites them is a country called Pakistan.....but that's not the case.
Whenever I travel to Pak, I see a lot of cases where people make fun of Pashtuns, Balochis etc and simply discriminate just on the basis of their culture. It happens the other way around as well. A mean circle......
I agree on the fact that the so-called leaders are "good" at playing the race card and hence more violence is created. But the reason why it gets to this level is because of people's mentallity. If people genuinely respected/accepted other cultures and etnicities we wouldn't have this scenario.

We (south asians) are very racist nation. We make fun of other accents. For us these are big differences. We are not the west, where these thoughts are considered bad.

One of the reason is that (most or probably more vocal people of) each "race/ethnicity" think of themselves too highly and find it necessary to put down the others when they find some shortcoming in themselves. Calling ourselves Muslims while playing along ethnic lines, identifying themselves with their ethnicity first etc.

I don't think that it is wrong if feel people speak their native language and follow their culture. What I'm seeing in Pakistan is that Pakistani people don' t like to accept that different people exist in the country. An example is language. If you speak another language the first question is : why don't you speak urdu or punjabi? I also have experienced that people are not interested in learning about the various people of Pakistan - it is as if people only think of Pakistan consisting of Minare Pakistan and not that much else.
I hope I'm not offending any one in the forum, but when you belong to a minority group your experiences can be quite harsh......
I think there is some segregation and ghettoisation but overall its a melting point.
You people spend too much time reading articles why not go andexperience life inPakistan?
