Re: Pakistan - A History in photographs
A scene from Pakistan’s first movie that faced Ban.
**
Reason behind Ban**
‘Roohi’ was banned by the Central Board of Film Censors on the charges of creating class hatred, whereas according to the film maker W Z Ahmed he wanted to depict life as it existed with all its ugly realities. The line of demarcation between class hatred and class awareness could not be distinguished by the Board. Mushtaq Gazdar does not mention the year but it was apparently in the early days of Pakistan. **
Some information about the cast and crew:**
A word about W Z Ahmed. He was the brother of Mian Riazuddin Ahmed who got selected in the last batch (1944) of the Indian Civil Service alongwith Mr Agha Shahi and Mr A G N Kazi. **
W Z Ahmed’s first wife Safia was the daughter of Sir Ghulam Hussain Hidayatullah - the first Governor of Sindh after Partition - while his second was Nina an actress who worked in his films. Nina left her her husband Abdullah who was brother of Begum Khursheed Mirza to marry him. W Z Ahmed also cast Nina with Shyam a tall and handsome actor who died prematurely by falling off horseback while shooting of the film ‘Shabistan’. Shyam was the father of TV actress/producer Sahira Kazmi.**

I kinda remember PTV shoeing this pic without Dina Jinah. May be thats another frame, but looking at PTV's history never showing a pic of Dina, I'm suspicious.
