Pakistan a failed country?

Hi guys

the following link was emailed to me by a friend of mine.
http://mybeliefs.co.uk/2011/12/03/pakistan-a-failed-nation/

it details why the author believes pakistan is a failed nation. After having read this, all i can say is i completely hate anti pakistani views being expressed!
It clearly does not good to our great nation.
anyway, i thought i start a discussion here. so what are your opinions is pakistan really a failed/lost country?

Re: Pakistan a failed country?

Sigh..Failed or lost would be when it is taken over. As long as it still stands, there is hope for betterment .

Just like there is hope for every human being to turn himself/herself around till death bus.

Re: Pakistan a failed country?

Pakistan can never fail, ISLAM will stand as a bastion of truth against the the Jew manipulation of the world and will fall down and Islam will defeat it! Pakistan will be in the forefront of this revolution. But we must first publicly hang all the corrupt politicians and instate sharia Law which is fair to All. Democracy by now should be clear to everyone is a Utopia which can never be realized.

Re: Pakistan a failed country?

By what measure is Pakistan a great nation? I’m serious about that question. Optimism about the country is one thing, but thinking that Pakistan is on the verge of a comeback, or that it’s some kind of under estimated gem, is simply delusional. The politicians, mullahs, and the elites have ruined the country, each vying for power in their own way.

It is possible to turn the country around but the politicians and the elites have to be willing to share the wealth. I could see an honest politician trying to make changes, but I don’t see the wealthy elites willing to give up their influence.

Re: Pakistan a failed country?

It's not a great nation, but it is far from a failed nation. In general law and order prevails (if you think otherwise, go to Iraq, Somalia, or Afghanistan, or Syria, or Libya).

Re: Pakistan a failed country?

I said its great because it is a Muslim country. However in hindsight I think that may have been a silly assumption to make. Simply because a country is based or was based in Islamic teachings does not make it a permenant great nation. It's the people who either make it great or choose to see it slid into chaos.

Re: Pakistan a failed country?

'Failed' is a conclusion, an affirmative stage. I dont think that we as a nation have concluded our downfall/journey yet. And who knows, like so many other nations, we may just bounce back.

Re: Pakistan a failed country?

^Well if your aim is to start a discussion…

:hehe:

Re: Pakistan a failed country?

pakistan has only their government to blame for any outside critisim. The country was amde and built to be great but sadly it is failing. Someone earlier mentioned that it is a Muslim country, which I have to say each to their own but I don't seriously agree. The country makes up its own laws to suit itself.

Re: Pakistan a failed country?

Yeah, Somalia is Muslim as well..

Re: Pakistan a failed country?

subjective and vague..........

Re: Pakistan a failed country?

Failed nation is no permanent status after all pakistan will be inshallah one of the developed nations....

but look at brighter sight u ppl atleast have more freedom of expression as compared to china, iran etc.....

u ppl can make money as much as u want unlike cuba,n.korea etc....

u ppl can watch indian tv channels unlike indians....

as far as economy is concerned pakistan has potential to be a developed nation.....

Re: Pakistan a failed country?

What do you mean

Re: Pakistan a failed country?

^we cann't watch pakistani channels

Re: Pakistan a failed country?

did anyone actually read the sentiments of this blogger?
i mean many of the things it said is biased and unfair. Just becuase pakitan recieves aid does it mean it is failing?

Re: Pakistan a failed country?

This is apparently the reason: Why Pak TVs are not shown in India

Re: Pakistan a failed country?

Huh. What points were not true?

In the name of war on terror the country is being pillaged of its beauty/sovereignty/independence. Whilst the politicians dance to the tunes of the Americans.
True

**Secondly, we hear the deaths of the these soldiers happened in pakistan from Pakistani air! Where’s the sovereignty gone now?
**True

If you look at the definition of a failed state, then yes it is:

  • loss of control of its territory, or of the monopoly on the legitimate use of physical force therein,
  • erosion of legitimate authority to make collective decisions,
  • an inability to provide public services, and
  • an inability to interact with other states as a full member of the international community.

No one says it has to stay in this category though.

Re: Pakistan a failed country?

I’d like to share few quotes from Noam Chomsky’s article,

Asked to draw a parallel between the situation in Pakistan and the characteristics of a failed state highlighted in his book ā€œFailed Statesā€, Chomsky said, ā€œI am afraid to say Pakistan is the paradigm example of a failed state and has been for a long time. It has had military rule, violence and oppression.ā€

Since the 1980s, the country had undergone an extremely dangerous form of radical Islamisation, which had undermined a good part of the society, under the Zia-ul-Haq tyranny, he said.

"Now it is in danger of collapsing, there is a rebellion in Balochistan, the (Federally Administered Tribal Areas) territories are out of control and always have been – and it is getting worse. It is possible that the Bhutto assassination might increase the severe unrest in Sindh, where there has been plenty of oppression, and this may lead to another secessionist movement, " he said.

Recent surveys had shown that the Pakistani people were ā€œin favour of democracy, possibly with an Islamic flavourā€ but ā€œthose hopes are not even near being realised in the existing political and social systemā€, Chomsky said.

…

and

**"**Chomsky, a fierce critic of American foreign policy, pointed out that Pakistan’s alliance with the US ā€œhas been quite harmful throughout its historyā€.

He said: "The US has tried to convert Pakistan into its highly militarised ally and has supported its military dictatorship.

"The Reagan administration strongly supported the Zia-ul-Haq tyranny, which had a very harmful affect on Pakistan, and the Reagan administration even pretended they didn’t know that Pakistan was developing nuclear weapons.

ā€œOf course they knew, but they had to pretend they did not, so that Congress would continue to fund their support for Pakistan, for the army, and for the ISI, all part of their support for the mujahideen in Afghanistan, which was not intended to help the Afghans.ā€

While pointing out that Pakistan could become a true democracy, Chomsky said the country could move to the level of India. "I mean there is a lot wrong with India, horrible things in India, but it is more or less a functioning democracy. Pakistan could move to that level, but, I think, it has to disentangle itself from the domination from the US.

…

Asked if democracy in Pakistan with an Islamic flavour would be acceptable to its Western allies, Chomsky replied: ā€œIt does not matter if it is acceptable to the Western countries, what matters is what is acceptable to Pakistanis. The Western countries would like to rule the world, but they have no authority to do that.ā€

Re: Pakistan a failed country?

Well given that Chomsky argues that US is a perfect example of a failed state, obviously allying with a toxic partner whether militarily or economically, is no good.
