I received a disturbung email from a relative in Pak, she is a college student and she forwarded this message to all of her relatives and friends living here in usa. The subject she put in was “read it you americans!!” and it had been forwarded all over, apparently its a very popular message amongst college people over there.
Anyway, it was professing hatred for americans and america and blaming the usa basically for all the world’s problems, for being “terrorists”, for invading Afghanistan, for invading Iraq, for supporting Israel and mostly for killing thousands of innocent children and civilians. WHen I asked this girl “well, you know the Taliban’s influence was growing in Pakistan, what would life be like for you under their regime?” she answered that she didnt know anything about that.
It seems like a very popular thing to hate america and americans over there. Even with no real understanding of the issues. No understanding of foreign policy - of any government. No understanding of why the invasions (whether we were right or wrong to invade, there WERE valid reasons to go in, she knew nothing of this).
I find this very disturbing, that even the so called educated people are now hating the usa. We had been thinking about living over there one day, I cant imagine it now. I’m not even sure about a visit. I’m a “gorah” so what can I expect when I’m there - especially since 2 of my 3 boys are blue-eyed? Another thing that really irks me is that I bet each and every one of those america-haters would do anything to come over and go to great lengths to obtain products from here.
Is this the e-mail where at the end it says something along the lines of "thats why we hate america" ? If so, then I got the same e-mail from a cousin of mine in Pak, I guess she wanted to rub my face in $hit..I just deleted it
First of all, No ur not over reacting. But let me add more to your story. This e-mail is not going around just by Pakistanis. I received/read similiar e-mails/articles from people from France, UK, all around the world. So Don't just conclude things about college student of Pakistan with such ideas.however, I assure you this, Your cousin doesnt speak for the whole country.

the ignorance on the subject that u mentioned is very rampant just like it is among the American masses about other countries and cultures let alone their own issues, motivations, and policies. How it is shown and handled differs.
jackasses are found in all regions. Someday I may share the hate mail I recieved after 9/11. I saved it just to remind myself that idiots exist everywhere :)

I do however want to point out that my neighbours, and cvolleagues were very supportive, to a point that they offered me to stay at their home until things calm down as they feared for my safety.

Yes you are or may be just looking at one side of the picture. I am not ignorant of facts, I dont hate people of America or of any part of the world.
But I strongly hate its Government double policies and invasions in the world. its manuplation and twist of facts.
So if American are being hated by so many people not everyone is wrong. WMD wasnt the real reason to invade Iraq, thats proved now.
Not every evil in the world can be blamed on America but there are quite a few to its name.
one side you veto every small and single resolution agains Isreal! and other side you go to invade without proper UN permission only on suspecion! and Israel get away with its Arms and un conditional support.
