When I was shopping for jewelery during my wedding. I ended up purchasing pieces which I thought I would never wear. Infact, one kara in particular that I bought, I thought I might wear with jeans and dresses in NY but with a lot of hesitation.
However, ever since I have gotten married, I am in love with that one kara. It’s gold with kundun. No color at all. The craftsmanship is exquisite and I wear it practically ALL the time. I never thought I would be wearing gold in NY other than at paki events. But this kara looks incredible with anything I wear, be it jeans and a tshirt, american dresses or eastern wear.
Ever since then, I’ve begun experimenting. Last night I went out, wore a mustard and magenta dress and paired it up with long citrine earrings that I got as part of a complete set in Pakistan and also wore that kundun kara. They looked pretty good. Whenever I wear gold jewelery out in western gatherings, I always get compliments.
Therefore, for all those women that live in the Western Hemisphere, when you go gold shopping, I think it would be a good idea to get pieces that you can actually wear over jeans and dresses anytime you want rather than having to wait for a paki gathering to wear it.
coupla years ago i used to wear gold chains and heavy gold jhumkay to school (dont shoot me, i was still in my learning stages :@: ).... normally i wear one bracelet or a kara and i thin it looks good....
I think some desi style earrings look nice to at non- western events i.e. kundan earrings and other more heavier desified earrings.
Aslong as you don't do the whole wearing all your wedding chooriyan with everything; most pieces, on an individual basis will extend over and can be worn to great effect with Western attire.
and I totally agree , with Sumo, some gold jewellery can look fantabulous even with western dresses … I usually just put on either just the earings or just the locket or just a kara … and gori’s always go crazy
