I am obviously going to book the person who does the best job out of all the trials

Don't have any problem, just seem you're not satisfied with any of the trails you have had, and the money spending on trail, seems to me a just a waste unless you're getting a free trails, as I know some of those people don't give free trails, ofcourse it you choice as to get the best one. Best of the best will still not be perfect on the trails, as it is a trail and not the actual day of the wedding, its just how the industry works, I think, as sometimes in the past people mentioned about a trail, but actually have the real wedding (small one) or getting a photoshoot done before the wedding, so remember you'll not get the perfect look on a trail day. trail day is to get the right colour, hair style (if you go with the same makeup artist) plus how to organize you day of the wedding so you're not stressed out and then ofcourse if any changes need to be done, they (bride and the makeup artist) do another consultation of what they like and dislike on the trails.
These are some of the stories I've heard from people about the makeup artist who will still not be perfect for the trail day, their work always turns out to look the best on the actual day.
So don't get offended, it was just a concern about have to spend so much money on trails and you already had what 4 trails, it must have cost you atleast $200/- (if the trail is not free) $200/- is a lot of money.

LD, I know people who never had the time for trials, but they trusted thier makeup artist and in teh end looked pretty well.

I must agree with MirzaJamila, Trials are meant to get the jist of the wedding day and to finalize colours etc. It isn't to base your decision on in my opinion.
My work is displayed on my site. If you like my style etc that is what should help you to make a choice. Then the trial helps you to see the basic look and to make sure there are no surprises on the big day like teal eyeliner that you had not planned on or something. My brides always look stunning on the day of the wedding, probably due to the bridal glow, the feel of the day, being dressed in all their wedding outfits and jewelery etc. It's different the just doing a trial with jeans and the top of the lengha on, you know?

One big thing to consider is weather or not you click with your artist. Does the artist pay attention to what you want and give you the appropriate guidance as to weather that look would work with your face shape or not. The artist is there to make you look like the best image of yourself. Not necessarily to change you into something else.

As a professional, an artist should also undertstand colour theory, and the right makeup for digital, high definition cameras that are being used now for 95% of weddings.
