Dont know about other countries but yeah in uk ‘paki’ is considered offensive whether someone is saying it in anger or in a normal conversation…though i have noticed sometimes when desi ppl use it no body minds.

Yes it is definitely a racist term in the UK and has been since the 60s. Yet it is a completely different story when British-Kashmiri/Pakistani are referring to each other by that term? Strangely the same can be said for people of African-Caribbean heritage here, they are comfortable with using the N word amongst each other? Most Kashmiris and Pakistanis in Pakistan don’t know this as they don’t know a lot of things, for instance: $hi* is a swear word here but they use it in a normal conversation. Sticking 2 fingers up (palm facing you) in Pakistan means v for victory in Pakistan but here that is a swear word and the list goes on…
