The negative connotation in the UK goes back to the 1960s. The Brits were unhappy with the waves of immigration coming in from the former colonies (we broke it off with you, quit stalking us) and paki became a way of demeaning anyone of a dusky hue.
It still holds power today because its history is so weighty. It is still linked to firebombs thrown into letterboxes, riots, the far right and skinheads. And other such fun things.

Well the term is pretty offensive , two years back the neighbours kid etched the word on the snow on our driveway, husband took a picture of it and informed police and the family next door got an official caution notice for the deed ! yes , its that bad !

sorry to that it happened to you and ur hubby did exactly what he was supposed to do…keep the local authorities informed. i hope some action will be taken other than just a warning.

I have a friend who says calls Pakistanis “paki”…she’s Indian Muslim.

I don’t understand why (because here its not a slur) but it annoys me.
