I stopped caring about how people pronounce my name a long time ago. I’ve lost count of how many versions of my VERY simple name have been derived.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, my supervisor just can’t seem to get my country of origin right. Pakistan isn’t an unheard of country these days but she still manages to confuse it with Palestine. I corrected her once and a few days later I got Pakestine. :hinna: I give up.
From now on, I live in Iceland and my friend’s name is Jummah (Jemma).
I dunno, pronunciation does’nt bother me (my name can be pronounced 3 diff ways), but it does drive me crazy when its misspelled.
I had a coworker for whom everyone always pronunced his name diferently and spelled it differently too…but he wouldnt’ get upset about it, he said even ppl from his own country don’t spell/pronounce it correctly
My last name is pronounced in such different ways Though thankfully people here pronounce my first name correctly so no qualms over that. And Pakistan is just pronounced the same way as every gora does .
Pack -eees -tan
Though one clueless gentleman got the most ultimate pronunciation.
Perkin-stan
I first give him my ghoori, thinking it was him trying to be funny or offensive. But when the guy was genuinely anxious, I couldnt stop smiling at him..which got him really bewildered.
-Where are you from?
Pakistan!!
-Ohh So you are pakistanian.. How nice!!!
Actually its Pakistani
-So you're not pakistanian??!?
I dont think anyone is!!!
I expect some effort to be made to pronounce names correctly because I make that effort. If someone says stupid things like Farahi or Faraha or Farina…I hang up or correct them on the spot and make them say it correctly.
Its only 3 syllables. I refuse to be called anything other than my real name or my nickname.
This is one of my pet peeves :hinna:
And don’t even get me started on the Pakistanian thing…I posted about that on FB once.
