Pak WC squad to need ICC clearance: ICC

Thanks to the satay baazi by Butt and Co and the other incompetent Butt as head of PCB the humiliation of Pak cricket continues.

Pak WC squad to need ICC clearance: ICC

Updated at: 1636 PST, Saturday, November 13, 2010

LAHORE: The announcement of the probables in squad for 2011 World Cup by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), will be subject to the clearance from ICC Anti-Corruption and Security Unit, Geo News reported Saturday.

According to latest reports, the PCB sent the names of 40 to 45 cricketers to the ICC, which will give back to the PCB the names of at least 30 cricketers. The PCB will present these 30 players as probables for World Cup.

The ICC had given the PCB a 30-day deadline - which finishes today - at its last board meeting to implement a series of anti-corruption measures, working in conjunction with the Pakistan Task Team (PTT).

Two teleconferences between the PTT and the PCB since, however, have been enough to suggest that the PCB has taken the ICC’s initial warning in the right spirit.

In the time since the warning, the PCB has considerably tightened up player code of conducts, appointed a full-time anti-corruption/security officer, set up an integrity committee and begun the process of the ICC’s anti-corruption code of conduct within its domestic set-up.

The players’ code of conduct, which they sign before going on any tour, now includes specific references to not making cricket or match-related statements on social network websites such as Facebook and Twitter.

Players have also been told to not register more than two SIMs for mobile phones in whichever country they are touring and each SIM must be registered with the touring management.

Curfew timings are also likely to be enforced more strictly; three players were fined during the Pakistan-South Africa ODI series in the UAE for returning to the hotel only minutes after the curfew time.

The new code of conduct was explained to the side in a detailed, interactive session given by the board’s legal advisor Taffazul Rizvi before it left for the UAE.

During the session it was also stressed repeatedly that players must report any previous or future approaches by potentially suspicious characters to team management immediately.

At some point in the near future, the PCB’s own anti-corruption code of conduct will come into implementation and will be applicable to all domestic and international cricket.

The documentation for the code, which mirrors that of the ICC, is almost ready though understandably it has to be tweaked to ensure it fits in with the law of the land.

The implementation, which will cover over 2000 first-class players, will take some more time.

The process of educating younger players working at the National Cricket Academy in Gaddafi Stadium on anti-corruption measures is also continuing.

Further unofficial confidence-building measures have come in the absence of Danish Kaneria and Kamran Akmal from the national side.

Both players have been under corruption clouds this summer; Kaneria has been cleared by Essex police in a spot-fixing investigation in county cricket and Akmal was sent a notice by the ACSU after the World T20 in May.

The board has said only that Kaneria wasn’t given clearance to tour the UAE by the new Integrity committee.

Akmal, for official purposes, was unfit following an appendix operation before the South Africa series but has since been playing domestic cricket; tellingly, Zulqarnain Haider’s sudden departure earlier this week resulted in a call-up not for Kamran, but his younger brother Adnan Akmal.

The ICC has denied having any say in these decisions, maintaining that they are internal matters of selection.

The two teleconferences held so far between the two sides are believed to have been healthy, productive ones.

Publicly, the ICC’s thoughts reveal progress in Pakistan.

The first meeting with the PTT on October 23 resulted in the ICC giving a cautious nod of approval to the PCB’s efforts.

By the second meeting, on November 7, the head of the PTT Giles Clarke and the ICC were more effusive in their praise.

The original warning, it is believed, was also prompted by the PCB’s delay in recognising the original Pakistan Task Force, when it was set up in January 2009.

Then, a reluctant and suspicious board had only agreed to work with the force after the terror attacks on the Sri Lanka team in Lahore in March that year.

The intention this time was to ensure the PCB would be on-board as soon as possible, which now appears to have succeeded.

Talk of sanctions, in light of increasing cooperation between the PCB and the PTT, has thus receded.

The next teleconference is expected to be held on November 21, after which the PTT will eventually report to the ICC board on the measures Pakistan has taken, though that is not expected to happen until close to the 2011 World Cup.

Re: Pak WC squad to need ICC clearance: ICC

Nothing but dramay-bazi by ICC as if ICC knows all players or has capability to filter out which player might have any link with fixing mafia. If ICC is really sincere they should enforce their rules properly instead of doing this crap.

Re: Pak WC squad to need ICC clearance: ICC

Please also add ICC and their continued incompetence to your list. It makes sense that the ICC task Force team is involved in a lot of Pakistan Cricket matters becasue of the incompetence of Ijaz Butt and Co. in running cricket matters in Pakistan. But reviewing the list of WC probables is bull **** and just drama bazi as Captain said. Basically ICC is trying to highlight their totally functionless ASCU unit as much as they can while this match fixing issue will last. ASCU has done absolutely nothing in the last 10 years or so and this is the only ICC has got this opportunity to respond to criticism against ASCU being a dead unit just like ICC.

Such measures of evaluating Pakistan WC probables may make sense if the Salman Butt and Co. have already been proven guilty and received bans/punishments. On what basis ICC or ASCU is evaluating Pakistan probables right now?

If ICC is dead sure that three or five players (including Kaneria, Akmal) are involved in spot fixing then why aren't they not punishing or banning them??????????

Why is ICC delaying the hearing of Salman Butt, Asif and Aamir when they are apparently have evidence that these players are involved in spot fixing? Or are they afraid after the hearing and its outcome, they will not be able to tell PCB to implement these "confidence building measures" related to spot fixing/match fixing???

Re: Pak WC squad to need ICC clearance: ICC

yes ICC is to be blamed as well. But lets not close our eyes to the root cause of all this. Has ICC done this before. Who gave them the excuse, who provided them the ammo to come after Pak cricket Salman and his co satay baaz. It is all very well to say that why arent they punishing them. ICC takes it time, remember the oval match even there ICC took its time. So to me the culprit are PCB and the satay baaz and I am in no mood to forgive them, neither prepared to blame ICC and satisfy myself. If you are not to be blamed you come out all guns blazing like the English team did.

Re: Pak WC squad to need ICC clearance: ICC

^^ Yes but if a player is corrupt, as in the case of Cronje, was CSA punished and ridiculed like this? No because they were not considered incompetent by the cricket countries and ICC. So same goes for PCB. If there had been a good leader a the helm of PCB, then the whole saga could have been limited to Salman etc.

And yes added to this is ICC of today vs then, Lorgat and his team are petty inept.

Re: Pak WC squad to need ICC clearance: ICC

In case of SA the board and the nation did not try and protect him. Big difference. He was banned and never played for SA after that. So yes if we had a good leader at PCB the damage might have been limited. We come back to the same argument, we provided ICC with the excuse. Had PCB taken timely action instead of shouting from roof tops that the players were 110% innocent the situation might have been different.

Re: Pak WC squad to need ICC clearance: ICC

Ehsan Bhai who is forgiving the three players if they are guilty????? People will not be in their right frame of mind if they say that. But to evaluate the list of probables for an event like WC means that you are singling out one country and saying thay their players are proven to be involved in match fixing ad this is bull ****.

Re: Pak WC squad to need ICC clearance: ICC

Ehsan bhai, you are forgetting but Cronje was defended and defended strongly by the board and nation until he admitted and was proven guilty. Again no one is defending the three players here but just asking that ICC should be transparent in the entire process. And if proven guilty, do you really think anyone will try to protect them?????????? The answer is no.

And ICC using this entire episode as an opportunity to highlight their incompetent ASCU and their own so called anti corruption measures at the cost of tarnishing Pakistan's already tarnished image is absolutely pathetic.

Re: Pak WC squad to need ICC clearance: ICC

and this is exactly why I said few days ago that all this is going to set a very wrong and dangerous precedent. This action of evaluating Pakistan's WC probables is backed by no evidence at least at this stage. So tomorrow if ICC's decide to ban Pakistan from playing cricket what are we going to do? Nothing, because Ijaz Butt is incompetent??? Why should we pay the price of that stupid moron and his incompetence??? Using the same logic why should all players form Pakisan should pay the price if three players are alleged to been involved in spot fixing????? Is this a standard operating protocol of ICC. Where does it say anywhere in their code of conduct that a country must get their probables approved from ICC if some players from that country are alleged to be involved in spot fixing. This is absolute bull crap!!!

The game should be bigger than Ijaz Butt, Haroon Lorgat, PCB or ICC. But ICC is continuing to show that why they are Incompetent clueless clowns just like PCB is a proven Pathetic Cricket Board.

Re: Pak WC squad to need ICC clearance: ICC

Exactly agree on how PCB reacted.

Re: Pak WC squad to need ICC clearance: ICC

If we had someone other than this joker as chairman PCB, ICC would not have been able to dictate terms.

Re: Pak WC squad to need ICC clearance: ICC

Aur phir jab jis qoum ka *morale gir jata hai, tou hum unper doosroN ko nafiz kar detey hein [Al-Quran]*

Re: Pak WC squad to need ICC clearance: ICC

Actually in PCB case "When the going gets tough the tough starts to crawl under the nearest rock"

We should not worry about this WC,,, Just be patient declare a "Self embargo on International Cricket"
Regroup and re-launch afetr at least 12 months or so,,

Re: Pak WC squad to need ICC clearance: ICC

Next Step:

Pakistani players are instructed to ask Haroon Logart before using toilet. It will be interesting to see Umer Gul or Shahid Afridi raising hand during a game (like we used to do in school)

Gul: Haroon, Haroon, can I go to Toilet?

Afridi: nahi nahi Haroon, pehley mujhey jana hai, mujhey ziada zoor ki lagi hai

PS: On serious note, I think barey BUTT sahab messed it up by not only not excluding Butt, Aamir and Asif from rest of the england tour instead insisting that they are available for selection. From there, it was all downhill. Had butt stated that these 3 will not be selected till investigations are completed, tu naubat yahaan tak nahi atee.

Re: Pak WC squad to need ICC clearance: ICC

yeah more like ICC is now the Second wife for Pakistani cricketers…so they can easily tell to *pehli biwi…“muaf karna begum…ICC nay shopping ki ijazat naheen dee…”
*serves them right…CLEAN up their act and get ICC of the backs of Pakistani cricket and players…

This is ICC riding Butt/PCB smiley…:gadha:..and all Igaaz butt can do is sh*t…

Re: Pak WC squad to need ICC clearance: ICC

Well the flip flop…:hmmm:

PCB says it doesn’t need ICC to select the probables…well that’s what I thought…idiots…

**
PCB to select World Cup players without ICC assistance**

DUBAI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will not send a list of potential players for the 2011 World Cup to the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Anti-corruption and Security Unit before selecting the final squad.
This was decided at a meeting of the national cricket selection committee, headed by former Test player Mohsin Khan.
The names of the players for the upcoming New Zealand tour and World Cup were also discussed in the meeting.
The PCB had said earlier that it will seek guidance from the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit while finalising the preliminary 30-member squad for the World Cup.
The Chief Executive of ICC Haroon Lorgat on Saturday categorically denied impressions that the cricket world’s governing body in anyway was interfering in the affairs of PCB.
“We are not in any way dictating terms with the PCB and giving them advises on certain issues including selection of the team for the Cricket World Cup,” he told APP Sports Correspondent Ehsan Qureshi in an exclusive interview at the Dubai Sports City International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
“The PCB is an independent body and they have to take their own decisions in various matters. We are not interferring with them,” Lorgat said.
He denied that the ICC has issued any instructions to the PCB not to pick players like Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal or Rana Naveed-ul-Hasan in the 30-man provisional squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
“The PCB is free to select their teams and run their affairs. The ICC just wants to extend assistance in streamlining their things,” he commented.
Responding to a question about the return of international cricket to Pakistan, he said it was premature to say anything at this stage.
“The Pakistan Task Team has been looking at this since January 2009 and looking at ways how it can help bring international cricket back to Pakistan. But it is difficult to give any time frame about it at this point in time,” he pointed out.
He said as per the ICC rules, Pakistan will be allowed to include the three players facing the charges of spot-fixing—Salman Butt, Muhammad Aamir and Muhammad Asif—in the World Cup squad if they are cleared by the ICC Anti-Corruption Tribunal which hold its hearing in Doha (Qatar) from January 6 to 11, 2011.
Haroon Lorgat said he had great sympathy with Pakistan cricket and wanted to help them in all positive ways and means.
Reacting to the inclusion of ICC Code of Conduct Commissioner Michael Beloff, in the Anti-Corruption Tribunal, Haroon said: “You have to read and understand the ICC Anti-Corruption Code for Players and Officials which clearly explains the process and allows Michael Beloff to chair the tribunal.
“The hearing in October was all about whether the three players should be allowed to return to international cricket on the basis of the charges which were levelled by the ICC ACSU General Manager. In January, the tribunal will decide whether there was enough evidence to back those charges.”
According to ICC Anti-Corruption Code Article 5.1.2, Beloff will be the chairman of the three-member committee which also include Justice Albie Sachs of South Africa and Sharad Rao of Kenya.
Article 5.1.2 of the Code says: “The Chairman of the ICC Code of Conduct Commission shall appoint three members from the ICC Code of Conduct Commission (which may include the Chairman) to form the Anti-Corruption Tribunal to hear each case. One member of the Anti-Corruption Tribunal, who shall be a lawyer, shall sit as the Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Tribunal.”

Re: Pak WC squad to need ICC clearance: ICC

Of course ICC has no fking right to select players for WC

its PCB job and they have to do it without interference of ICC

Re: Pak WC squad to need ICC clearance: ICC

Ehsan bhai I agree with u on this fully. Most of the blame for all this falls on Butt Sr. and Butt Jr.

Re: Pak WC squad to need ICC clearance: ICC

What has Butt Junior to do with this all

Re: Pak WC squad to need ICC clearance: ICC

he is probably the ring leader of this spot fixing drama
