Pak vs. NZ - 5th ODI

PAK lost by 4 RUNS.

Inzi's soccer skills in the field cost us 4 RUNS when he tried to stop a straight forward ball by his foot. Ironic, isn't it?

Also, shame on Umpire Darryl Hair and Billy Bowden for calling NO BALLS on Sami and Shoaib Akhtar. The one by Hair was insane. Akhtar had half of his foot behind the line. Some people will argue it could have been for the "throwing" BUT isn't an umpire supposed to give a warning or at least notify the bowler the reason if it isn't the line-call?.

Anyway, good fight by Pakistan. Winning and losing is part of the package. It's the way you lose that counts for me.

i must say that i m honored to watch that breathtaking inning of razzaq ...may be the best inning i have ever seen considering the amount of pressure that was on razzaq at that time...
Pakistan could have won the match ,had abdul razaq stayed on the wicket for couple of balls...
but nyhow we dont get inning of this calibre too often....perhaps its once in blue moon..
this match was testimony of one day cricket at its best.....
but in the end ,it was razaaq who won all the accolades but lests not forget the valiant efforts of yasir hameed, inzmam and moin ....but as it is said that some stars shine brighter than others and this time that bright star was abdul razaq...
finally hats off to abdul razaq for providing us such a priceless entertainment...

*wat extraveganza, i am speechless, i went to bed last nite thiking we would be skittled out for a measly total, but no again we showed charater and composed this total very well, well done pak especially razzaq’ for a gr8 odi series with the bat.

six after six, 4 after 4 wat fireworks man :dhimpak: and i bet the
kiwi’s never thought we could do that, i suppose we left
new zealand with a big bang, jioooooooooooooooo :jhanda:*

One-day international, Wellington: New Zealand 307-8 beat Pakistan 303 by four runs

:nono: scorecard :nono:](BBC SPORT | Cricket | Scorecards)

Brilliant batting by Abdul Razzaq was all in vain as Pakistan went down by four runs to New Zealand in the final match of their tour in Wellington.

Shabbir Ahmed was run out off the third ball of the last over to give the Kiwis a 4-1 win in the one-day series.

Hamish Marshall (84) and Craig McMillan (81) shared a partnership of 157 as New Zealand made a daunting total of 307-8.

Razzaq smashed five sixes in his 89 off 40 balls to keep Pakistan in the hunt but they were all out for 303.

The tourists looked down and out at 73-4 before skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq (67) and Moin Khan (52) revived their hopes by putting on 98 in 21 overs.

Day in and day out this guy is by far the best hitter I’ve seen - he can turn matches just like that , Stephen Fleming on Razzaq

But it was only a curtain-raiser to the fireworks of the final 10 overs which began with Pakistan needing another 121 runs for victory.

Razzaq was on the attack immediately, racing to 50 from only 23 balls as he put on 94 with Inzamam, who was eventually run out in the 46th over.

Shoaib Malik was stumped three balls later but Razzaq continued his assault, with 17 runs added in the 48th over, bowled by Kyle Mills, before Shoaib Akhtar was run out off the final delivery.

Pakistan needed 14 from 12 balls when Razzaq attempted another big hit off Andre Adams and Hamish Marshall took a good catch on the long-off boundary.

It was left to the final pair to see Pakistan home and they reduced the target to five from four balls before Mohammad Sami refused the call for a single to mid-wicket and Shabbir was beaten by Scott Styris’ throw.

New Zealand had earlier capitalised on some poor bowling and ragged fielding by Pakistan to pass 300 for the 10th time in a one-day international.

Pace bowler Sami removed openers Craig Cumming (31) and Stephen Fleming (16) but conceded 73 from his 10 overs and Shabbir fared little better.

Marshall underlined the promise shown when making a maiden hundred on the recent tour to Pakistan with another sensible innings, while McMillan hit two sixes and eight fours.

FASTEST ODI 50s FOR PAKISTAN

18 balls Shahid Afridi v Sri Lanka, Nairobi 1996
18 balls Shahid Afridi v Holland, Colombo 2002
23 balls Salim Malik v India, Calcutta 1987
23 balls Yousuf Youhana v Zimbabwe, Bulawayo 2002
**23 balls Abdul Razzaq v New Zealand, Wellington 2004 ** :k:

Their stand was ended when McMillan holed out to Shabbir off Azhar Mahmodd and Marshall followed when he was run out after a mix-up with new partner Chris Cairns.

Shoaib Akhtar bowled Brendon McCullum and Adams in the penultimate over for figures of 2-46, but New Zealand’s total proved just enough. *

Coach Javed Miandad said Pakistan would go into next month’s series against India full of confidence despite losing a one-day series in New Zealand.

Pakistan went down 4-1 after losing the final match of the series in Wellington by four runs on Saturday.

Miandad and Pakistan go home happy despite the one-day defeat

They just failed to chase 308 for victory after Abdul Razzaq’s 40-ball 89 had put them in with a chance.

“We were unlucky,” Miandad said. “We should have won this game and it could have been different.”

He added: “But it’s good for morale-boosting and I’m sure everybody enjoyed the game.”

The limited-overs series defeat followed Pakistan’s 1-0 win in the Test series.

And Miandad said they would prepare for India’s visit full of confidence.

He said: "We are looking forward the Indian series and we have learned a lot from this.

“I’m very pleased and happy with the way we played the last game and it is going to give a lot of confidence to the boys.”

Miandad believed the one-sided series scoreline flattered New Zealand.

“We weren’t as bad as 4-1 losers. At least we won the Test series, so we can say the tour was a success.”

New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming was suitably delighted with his side.

He said: “The standard of cricket today was great and the win sets up the rest of the summer with the series against South Africa coming up.” *

i agree with mr miandad, we had a good tour,a very postive 1 infact, atleast we down fighting in the odi series and we won the test series ha haaaa :k:

whats worse is the way he got out.

^^ yeah, dont know wats the problem with him. he has shown poor performance in batting since SA tour :(

Here is my take on the match.

  • For starters i think Pakistan chose a right team to play with, on hindsight the batting was a bit shallow but I believe Azhar should be given more chances as a batsman. A continuous run at the top of the order would boost his confidence and he bowled well too. Sami was disappoiting at the end but bowled a good first spill, i dont know why he stopped bowling yorkers and bowled good length deliveries when cairns was batting. Shoaib was brilliant at the end, awesome bowling from him,

  • Our fielding was very shobby to say the least, atleast 15 runs were given away just from simple fielding errors lead by none other than captain.

  • Yasir played some spanking shots and showed his calibre, he was out to a brilliant catch. Moin was awesome, his square cuts were of top quality. Inzimam though was irritating me in the beginning but later i realized he played a really quality calculated inning, he knew he had Razzaq to come so they just waited for the final assault with sporadic boundaries, though a few risks could have been taken earlier but still a mature knock from a great player. :k:

  • Razzaq is da man, he was simply awesome. I mean his unique stance opens up a huge hitting for him and when he is in this mood, only bodyline bowling or some luck on the bowlers part can stop him and thats what happened in the end. I was getting late for my presentation and pakistan needed 115 runs in the last 10 overs  I was all ready to go and out came that inccredible assault in adams over bam bam bam. And that made me watch till the last over, a victory would have been really great but such kinda defeats dont hurt that much and i m proud of the way paksitan fought back from improbable reqd run rate of 11 in the last 10-odd overs. Great stuff, it was like you are watching a highlights package

As of about the series, two matches went down right to the wire and could have gone paksitan’s way. The only shambolic defeat was that in fourth match, otherwise with some luck and common sense from our captain we could have won the sereis. I agree with miandad that 4-1 was flattering for new zealand.

Darryl Hair has no right to no ball Shoaib, only umpires on the legside have the ability.

303 in the end when we were 73/4 was really unexpected… and I went to sleep :o

BTW, we shouldn’t really be excited about reaching 303 or “going down fighting”. If it were not for an individual’s heroics (Abdul Razzaq’s) we wouldn’t have crossed 250… He smashed 89 out of some 40 balls? Its great fireworkds, but our batting line has to put its act together and not depend on late order to do fireworks.

Though we lost only by 4 runs, I am still concerned about our batting. Yasir Hameed scored sensible 48, if his partner had used his head we could’ve seen different result. Then our genius captain sends Azhar Mehmood one down :smack: He should be sent in the end with A Razzaq for pinch hitting. These are the times when a Captain steps us and puts up the fight and not use someone else as escape goat.

Then our Youhanna gets unlucky out :bailan:
Departure of Youhanna did bring Inzi at almost “1 down” position, right? so why the heck did he not step up earlier? :mad2:

Moin Khan :k:… please you be the captain for ODIs.

Shoaib Malik continued his dismal performance.

What is this hoopla about Figting Loss.

Then lets also name Tendulkar the Great Loser after scoring a magnifcent ton at Chennai after losing the test match against Pakistan for 17 odd runs.

Tendulkar: The Great Loser!

*No doubt that he is da best hitter in Pakistani team, he may have lost some pace in his bawling but he is still very valuable player in ODI.

I have disappointed by Azhar and Shoaib Malik performance…

Did anyone see Bilal Asad play? I heard he is pretty good allrounder, his performance was awesome in SA during 1st class tour back in 2003,… hopefully he will replace Azhar in ODI*

:nono1:
Cricket is a team game.. We cannot callt Tendulkar as loser. However you can call
India : The Great Loser

I really start to like Razzaq. This is not the first time he’s done that. I admire you, man! Keep it up! :k: :k: :flower1:

well said.... a loser is a damn loser no matter wut and pak is loser at end of the game.... we are not bangladesh who can justoify ourselves by saying " wow, we really fought well"..... we shud win the game.... we played pathetic whole match except last 10 overs...........damn losers....

I can't give the congratulations to Pakistan, but only to Razzaq.

Think about it, without him Pakistan would have been helpless.

Yet.... Cricket is a team game. And there is no individual recognition in the game, as we're not talking about tennis. Therefore way to go Pakistan!

The India series will be very interesting, but anything can still happen.
