Pakistan captain visits Sehwag to offer condolences
Agencies

**New Delhi, November 2: **In a touching gesture, Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik and manager Talat Ali visited the residence of Virender Sehwag to personally offer their condolences to the bereaved Indian cricketer.
Malik and Ali, accompanied by media manager Ehsan Malik, left for Sehwag’s residence in Najafgarh immediately after their warm-up game against Delhi at the Feroze Shah Kotla to meet the star player who lost his father on Wednesday.
The Pakistanis spent about 10 minutes with Sehwag and other family members as hordes of photographers waited outside.
After coming out, media manager Malik said that they carried the feelings of other members of the team during these difficult times for Sehwag.
Sehwag’s father Kishan passed away after a heart attack on the day the Indian team, which won the recent Twenty20 World Cup, was felicitated by the President and the Prime Minister in the capital.
Pakistan, who arrived in New Delhi on Thursday evening, will play five ODIs and three Tests during their tour of India.
Re: Pak vs India, First ODI, Nov 5
btw, I was wondering if the imposition of Emergency in Pakistan will have any bearing on this tour.
Quite unrelated, but I am reminded of the assasination of Indira Gandhi. India were playing Pakistan in Sialkot when the news came. The game and the series was called-off immediately.
But those were the days of innocence, when political assasinations and suicide bombings were not a routine phenomenon....and people related to their leader emotionally despite their political loyalties.
Re: Pak vs India, First ODI, Nov 5
^ now I know why I don’t feel like following the series even though it hasn’t started yet :sigh:

Emergency in Pakistan casts shadow over tour
Cricinfo staff
November 3, 2007
The declaration of a state of emergency in Pakistan has cast a shadow over the national team’s tour of India, but is not expected to result in the tour being called off.
The Pakistan Cricket Board is yet to come out with an official statement - that could happen after the country’s president, General Pervez Musharraf, addresses the nation later on Saturday - but a senior official said the series would not be affected at all because it is taking place in India.
“As far as we are concerned, we have not received any instructions from the PCB,” Ehsan Malik, the team’s media manager, told PTI. “We are continuing to do what we have been doing.”

**Emergency at home will not affect India tour: PCB chief **
The News International: Latest News Breaking, World, Entertainment, Royal News

KARACHI: Pakistan’s cricket chief Nasim Ashraf on Saturday made it clear that the uncertain political situation in Pakistan will not affect the national cricket team’s ongoing tour of India.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman told ‘The News’ from Kuwait City that the tour of India would go on according to schedule just hours after President Pervez Musharraf imposed emergency rule and suspended the country’s constitution.
“The imposition of emergency will not affect our team’s tour of India in any way,” Ashraf said in a telephonic conversation from Kuwait City where he is attending an Asian Cricket Council moot.
“Our team will remain in India and I’m confident that the players will give their best in the series.”
Pakistan flew into New Delhi on November 1 to play a five-match ODI series that would be followed by three Tests. The national team was in New Delhi on Saturday and was scheduled to leave for Guwahati this morning to play the opening one-day game on Monday (tomorrow).
Ashraf hoped that the Pakistani players would continue to focus on the tour which he termed as an assignment even more important than the World Cup.
Musharraf’s decision to declare emergency in Pakistan did cast a shadow on the current tour and according to national team sources the Indian media flooded Pakistani officials and players with questions regarding the political situation back home. The focus was no more on the Guwahati game where both the teams would be looking to draw first blood.
The Pakistani players had just returned to their hotel from a practice session held at Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla Ground when they learnt through television reports that Pakistan is now under emergency rule.
A PCB official told this correspondent that though the players are obviously concerned over the happening back home, but they remain in a positive mood and are looking forward to begin the ODI series with a win in Guwahati.

**Emergency at home will not affect India tour: PCB chief **quote]
Naseem is musharaff's dog anyway and of course musharaff would not want to call of the tour as it would reflect the seriousness of situation back home. Ideally, Musahraff would want everything related to Pakistan to happen as normally as possible so that nothing catches international media’s attention.
But I personally feel that considering the gravity of situation back home, Pakistani team is not in the right state of mind and should cancel the tour. There is a general consensus among Pakistani circles that our country has never faced such a crisis before and it would be really hurtful to see Pakistani nation losing its attention to stupid cricket matches instead of focusing on current crisis.
While an argument can be made that sports should not be polluted with political nuisances, the current crisis is not exactly a political one. On the contrary last few months are and the coming few months will be sort of defining moments in Pakistan’s history. Cricket has huge emotional following in Pakistan and therefore, it is safe to assume that should the tour proceed as planned, it would simply divert Pakistani people’s attention from crisis. That is exactly what Musharaff wants. I am personally going to write to Naseem and request him to cancel the tour in the best interest of Pakistan.
Re: Pak vs India, First ODI, Nov 5

Re: Pak vs India, First ODI, Nov 5
I will forgive all sins of the Pakistan team: all collapses, the early WC exits, the loss to SA in the 5th ODI if they win this ODI series and Test series. I won’t ask anything of them ever again if they can give me these two wishes.
This means more to me than any Bank Alfalah cup or even the prestigous WC.

The sun went down at around 4:40 pm on match eve and it's prompted the two teams to agree to an 8:30 am start.
So it will start half-hour earlier
