Wahab Riaz ruled out of South Africa series

   ESPNcricinfo staff

November 13, 2010

Pakistan left-arm seamer Wahab Riaz has been ruled out of the ongoing Test series against South Africa due to a muscle strain. His absence is a blow to Pakistan, who are left with Umar Gul as their lone frontline seamer in their current Test in Dubai.
“Riaz has suffered a side strain on the right side and needs four to five weeks for recovery before rehabilitation, so he will return to Pakistan after the first Test,” Intikhab Alam, the Pakistan team manager, told AFP. He added there would be no replacement for Riaz in the squad, and that leaves Mohammad Sami and Sohail Tanvir as possible new-ball partners for Gul in Abu Dhabi for the second Test which starts on November 20.
Riaz, 25, had an impressive start to his Test career, with a five-for on debut against England at The Oval earlier in the year. On Friday, he picked up two wickets in South Africa’s first innings but was unable to bowl on the second day of the Test as a result of his injury. Gul and the spin pair of Abdur Rehman and Saeed Ajmal stepped up, however, to bowl out South Africa for 380 after they had dominated the opening day.

Re: PAK V SA - First Test Match

Good come back by Pakistan :mash: Hafeez needs to keep his calm, someone please tell him that he is allowed to stay on wicket as long as he wants and score a century. Or is he short on patience like other players?

Re: PAK V SA - First Test Match

Just when I thought I should write about Gul's limitations as a test bowler, he surprises us all with a really good performance on day 2. With Wahab also ruled out of the series, spinners hold the key to Pakistan's chances in the test series. Much hard work is still required with the bat if we are to win or even save this game (remember Pak will be batting last) but a great come-back by the bowlers nevertheless in restricting SA to 380 from the strong position they were in after day 1. Will be interesting to see if Adnan Akmal is any good with the bat

Re: PAK V SA - First Test Match

You will be amazed by the magic Younis Khan will bring to our bowling in SA next innings. SA batsman will go after him and will get out cheaply :jhanda:

Well played Pakistan.

Re: PAK V SA - First Test Match

well good job for Taufiq and Hafeez (even though he couldn't stay untill he got his 100...
Taufiq is a the standard test opener that pakistan should retain even though he may not be able to get a big total immediately. His 40+ innings should be good for now.

YK needs to prove his selection and comeback with a big score here...he must be under pressure, but given that this is Dubai, if he keeps his wits then it shouldn't be hard for him to score a big one!

As for Azhar...dude this is not the Zaheer Abbas days of test cricket...lets get going now....have some confidence pal....if you could deal with English bowler in england...this is Dubai...

Amazing stuff from Gul...he does not sieze to amaze...
