~ ~Pak students In American Uni ~ ~

When they reached their in foreign countries, they are really whelmed to seee the skycrapers , Fashionable ppl , fancy retruents ,Grand hotels and Motels, Tremendous shopping malls and all the great things they dreamt about European countries. But when the tim cam for their classes to begin at the Dif institutes lik Engn / Fashion designing institutes , All their dream shattered at once. They expected to see friendly and affectionate faces.Instead they were welcomed by menacing stares and an unwelcoming atmosphere. Soon they were able to to see the darker side of the dream. They noticed teenagers smoking cigarettes and using abusive language with each other.

Even the teachers are not helpful and friendly. Soon they cam to know the reason for the entire unfriendly attitude towards them. The Muslims , especially Pakistanis were not liked there, They were thoughts to be uncivilized and barbaric.they never felt so lonely in their whole lives.A month pass and state grew worst. After a long (this) kinda miserable life, they decided to spent rest of their lives with their parents and decided to return back. This is the miserable story of those pakistanies who went their for higher studies and didn’t adjust in the (European) environment

I didnt mean that every1 their is facing this kinda environmental problem but most of Us hav dreamt lik that and failed to find that what we expect.

Re: ~ ~Pak students In American Uni ~ ~

I think it depends on the person's nature because.. if one's an outgoing person, he/she can get along well with whatever environment they're thrown in.. if ones kinda all abt keeping to him/herself.. well then they'll always be like that and will never experience anything new..
I mean why go abroad to study in the first place? you would do that..to experience new things, new sights, new environment, opportunities, ppl, yada yada.. so..why not adapt accordingly to the change that you yourself are willingly wanting to get down and dirty into?
Well..I'm one of these kids.. thats moved across countries.. and adaptation came naturally to me.. I love this place...but at the same time.. havent lost my roots back home though :) where theres a will, theres a way ;)
-- thats an interesting topic-- that concerns the majority of us these days :)

Re: ~ ~Pak students In American Uni ~ ~

great …stil if som1 is living in foreign countries for them its really not difficult to rom here or there but if desies who spend most of peak years of their life in Pakistan , for them its really difficult to adjust …The facilities that we are availing here , we didnt find their Specially the kinda parents support , spoon feeding therefore for Mommy daddy’s kinda kids really face worst experience of their lives in these countries .

U can visit these countries for travelling point of view but permanent settlement in these countries is somthing difficult especially for a person lik me:teary1:

Re: ~ ~Pak students In American Uni ~ ~

i find it completely opposite, in Western countries its more easy to settle down because its such a diverse environment with all sorts of people around u. No matter who u are, or whatever ur interests may be u'll always find a social circle in which u fit into. Unlike in our country where everyone just copies the other person and where diversity doesnt exist its hard for someone new to adjust because u have to change urself in order to fit in.

Re: ~ ~Pak students In American Uni ~ ~

u probably asked people to "lik" you instead of "like" you. Maybe thats why you got the menacing stares?

Re: ~ ~Pak students In American Uni ~ ~

I m not getting what u wana say or mean … :konfused: lik or “like”

Re: ~ ~Pak students In American Uni ~ ~

Re: ~ ~Pak students In American Uni ~ ~

decent felow

I came to US at 17, was in a hick state by american standards and did not have any problems settling in, as a matter of fact most of my friends atleast in the first few years were all americans and many from small towns. I was elected to the student council one year and served student government chair the following year.

Now this is late 80's we are talking about, so while there was not the backlash after 9/11 at the same time there wa sno internet there was not much ppl had the ability to know about other cultures.

I felt welcome, people opened their homes to me for thanksgiving and other events. I was invlvd in the community and was given an award by the mayor of the city..

The point is that they did not have to do any of that, they did not have to vote me in student govt, they did not have to open their homes to me, they did not have to do many things but they did, out of the goodness of their hearts and I would always carry those values that I saw i practice along simple kansas small town folks...even more so than I did before meeting them.

All in all i had a fanastic undergrad experience.

did i have some negative experiences, yes .. but like really just a handful no more. not any worse than what I had felt once I had moved to Pak and was an outsider.

Re: ~ ~Pak students In American Uni ~ ~

thats cetainly not what I experienced in america as a foreign student ,ieventough it was pre-9/11 people there were very nice toward me and other pakistanis who came with me.times may have changed now.
