Pak sexuality in literature

I know this is one of those topics that causes giggles and sniggers, but has Pakistani sexuality ever been touched upon in literature? How it differs from one social class to another?

Re: Pak sexuality in literature

Hmm..all I can think of is Mothsmoke and that's not even a good example of Pakistani sexuality. Does literature even touch on that subject?

Re: Pak sexuality in literature

sa'adat hussain mantu wrote some excellent piece of work, highlighting the society's problems due to gender bias, and just the male-dominance (sp?) in indopak culture.. some say it was just result of a perverted mind...feel free to read his work and make ur own opinion..

asmat chughtayi, a female author , along with sa'adat hussain was called in the court of law many times for the trials on her books, which some people sued for being vulgar ...

then there is 'chawanni public' ...criteria entirely of its own... they are pure ripoffs of egatha christy-type novels..

..... my two cents.. so yeah, there are examples out there.. :-)

Re: Pak sexuality in literature

  1. ismat chugtai

  2. sadat hassan manto

  3. contemporary authors: Hanif Kurieshi, Abdullah Hussain and Bapsi Sidwa (don’t take my word on this one. i can’t remember which book covered it…but i want to say she does hit on this issue. (maybe “an amerian brat”).

  4. chowk is another publication that has covered sexuality.

p.s. there’s a lengthy list of Indian authors if you are interested.

It was about an old bicycle and the way the author narrates how he oiled it, oh well, the words really had some double-meanings :D

Re: Pak sexuality in literature

depends on which ‘sexuality’ are you referring to, if you are referring to ‘lone sex’ then yeah that’d be dirty :stuck_out_tongue:
