Moscow, September 5: Pakistan has offered $130 million to Russia for developing and launching a spy satellite capable of ‘keeping an eye on India and other neighbouring countries’, a Russian daily reported.
The preparations are nearing completion for the launch of Pakistan’s first satellite ‘Badr-B’ aboard Russian ‘Zenit’ booster and Pakistani space agency ‘Suparco’ is exploring the possibility of placing orders with the Russian Space Industry for developing and launching a remote sensing satellite with high resolution cameras - in other words, a SPQ satellite, the daily Vremya Novostyei said.
Russia has so far abstained from signing a contract saying, “Our old time ally India would be the main object of Pakistan spy satellite,” the daily wrote.
Meanwhile, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov has cleared launching of Pakistan’s mini-satellite ‘Badr-B’ in package with two Russian and a joint German-Moroccan satellites.
Former Pakistan premier Nawaz Sharif had signed $800 thousand deal to launch a mini-satellite with Russia in 1990’s but due to technical hitches Islamabad’s entry into the space club has been delayed by about two years.
In the contract signed with Russia, Islamabad has described the functions of its satellite in very obscure terms like ‘meteorological and photo survey’, ‘testing of the integrity of communication services’, the daily said.
“It seems that by launching ‘Badr-B’ Pakistan simply wants to verify whether its telecom facilities are capable of sustaining a reliable contact with the orbiting satellite. Only later it would launch something more serious than ‘Badr-B’,” Vremya Novostyei said.
Vayu, maybe this is the start of a new allegiance in the REGION. Russia will DROP its old ally INDIA and supply JOINTLY DEVELOPED PRODUCTS to Pakistan like CHINA has. The DIFFERENCE being Pakistan will use its expertise to BUILD FIRST RATE hardware with the RUSSIANs, UNLIKE The indians who USE SUB STANDARD hardware with AMATEUR PILOTS
BADR-B is Pakistan's Second satellite. The first one was BADR-1. I have no info about SPY satellite. All I know is Pakistan want's to launch a Comm. Satellite with French help (a company called AlcaTel)..

I think the french pulled out bacause of US sanction.
… Pak-Russia relations will get stronger in the coming years. Their joint initiatives especially in SPACE research will help Pakistan build HIGHLY SOPHISTICATED SATELLITES.( Better than sub-standard indian clones
I think the Pakistan Steel Mills in Karachi is from Russia, right folks? as Ameer Kiani already said, Russian airplanes have some bugs.... may be like "blue-screen" in Microsoft products.

Vayu, If you READ the threads you will notice we were talking about Russian Military Hardware SOLELY built by the Russians eg Migs. In your thread you talk about Russian sattelite technology JOINTLY developed with Pakistan. So its you that is CONFUSED with the issues. We welcome JOINT collabaration with the RUSSIANS in space research because WE know our Scientists and engineers are some of the BEST in the world. WE would not BUY second rate PRODUCTS from Russia like the Indians have done. Our JOINTLY BUILT PRODUCTS are WORLD CLASS.
