Generally www.oanda.com is a good site but its historical data is limited. According to the first link it went back and forth from March 96 till August 96, but since then INR has a higher value.](“http://www.oanda.com”)

Wow, you really don't understand economics, huh?

The strength of a country's currency does not translate into economic strength.

As a Pakistani-American, I am glad that the Pakistani currency is weaker than the Indian currency! It means that Pakistani goods will be cheaper to foreigners, such as U.S., Europe, Middle East, which will, in turn, increase Pakistan's exports, leading to a more balanced budget.

The Indians will suffer from this higher valued currency as Indian goods become more expensive to foreigners, leading to a decrease in international purchases of Indian goods.

This also means that, since Pakistan and India produce coparitively similar goods in terms of type, quality, etc., that foreign counters will turn to Pakistani goods more.

Re: Pak rupee vs indian rupee

Here’s hoping.. But then isnt our inflation also higher? So any difference in terms purchasing power would negated by the fact that our products are that much more expensive? Plus anyone investing in Pakistan also has to deal with other problems such as the many taxes, the beaurocracy (worse in India though), the inadequate infrastructure, among other things which equate to higher expenses?

Re: Pak rupee vs indian rupee

I say, we accept da dollar as our currency...:D

Re: Pak rupee vs indian rupee

I'm support that. :p

Re: Pak rupee vs indian rupee

No dont support the dollar because the dollar will crash soon Inshallah!

Just wait till Iran opens it's oil bourse and accepts Euro's instead of dollars. The USA currency will come tumbling down

Re: Pak rupee vs indian rupee

What a stupid, stupid, stupid thing to say. You must be four years old.

If the mighty, the great, the amazing United States Dollar "crashes" every other world currency will crash as well. Secondly, your logic is so dumb it defies any sort of reason.

By the way, the dollar won't "crash" since it's not based on the gold standard. It's based on faith.

Your point about Iran is so absurd I am just laughing out loud right now. Really. I am laughing very loud.

THE WORLD RUNS ON THE U.S. DOLLAR. AND I LOVE THAT IT'S IN MY POCKET.

Re: Pak rupee vs indian rupee

Stewie, whats so solid about the dollar when its core foundation is faith and not solid economic sense. When the US economy was solid it made sense to invest in dollars, now the world cannot afford to keep propping up the dollar and get increasingly less return. In fact the US defaulted indirectly on 40% of its debt to the world when the dollar dropped 40% in value vis-a-vis the other currencies. In fact China which holds huge dollar amounts has been dumping its dollars by buying goods from countries in dollars. The following 2 part articles sums up the weakening foundation of the dollar.

Re: Pak rupee vs indian rupee

so what are we discussing here rupee and rupee or dollar?

Re: Pak rupee vs indian rupee

i am sad that my point was overlooked.

Re: Pak rupee vs indian rupee

canadian currency is so gay looking.

Re: Pak rupee vs indian rupee

First of all, the dollar runs the world. Its value has undergoing a current drop, but that's just a matter of economics. The dollar can't indefianately go up all the time. The dollar is the strongest currency on the world BECAUSE it is baised on faith in the world's only superpower, the USA. That's why US government securities are considered the safest form of investment.

Huh. It's nice of you to bring China into this. Yes, they are holding large reserves of US dollars. But letting them out will harm their interests if it will make the dollar weaker. You see, China exports a ****load of thins to the US. If the dollar is weak, then those Chinese goods cause more. That increase in costs will drive down US demand for Chinese goods, and along with it, China's bank balance.

Trust me, you don't even want to get into a debate about China's artifical currency with me.

Also, the VERY FACT THAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE US DOLLAR shows us how powerful it is. So there. Take it. US dollar rules.

Re: Pak rupee vs indian rupee

Indian Rupee hasn't showered in some years and is averse to the use of deoderant...
