Pak President no taker for free tickets

PESHAWAR : This one is for the ones in khadi, and also for the ones who have offices in one of those Bhawans around the India Gate lawns in Delhi .

Here in Pakistan even their President, General Pervez Musharraf, buys tickets to watch cricket matches. It’s true.

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shahryar Khan told Times News Network on Thursday: “The President had come along with three of his relatives to watch the One-day International game in Rawalpindi . He himself is the Patron-in-chief of the PCB and doesn’t need tickets to watch matches. But he still insisted and paid for it and also for his family.”

The President, who enjoyed every bit of the Pakistan victory, paid Rs. 4,500 in all for the tickets (@ Rs 1,500 each). Though the PCB insisted that he need not pay, Musharraf ordered his staff to make the payment immediately when the two teams called on him in Islamabad on Wednesday. “This is not a one-off instance. Even Pakistan ’s prime minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali wanted to come for this match in Peshawar . He too is buying tickets for the matches,” Shahryar said.

This seems to be a refreshing change from a centre like Delhi where almost every glittering nameplate believes that a ‘free pass’ to a cricket game is part of their fundamental rights.

Shahryar also informed that Pakistan and India may play a three-match One-day series some time in September or October later this year.

“The move is still in the pipeline and all depends on whether the ICC Knockout Trophy moves out of England or not. If it does then there is a fair chance of the series happening.”

President Musharraf :jhanda:

this is about as impressive as billionaire CEO's taking $1 dollar salaries (while cashing out millions in stock) to show they are modest.

but nevertheless, he didnt have to pay. so i commend him.

It sure feels good in the headlines. Remember what Sardar Patel or Pandit Nehru said about Gandhi travelling 3rd class in train - "it costs more than 1st class".
