NEW DELHI: Trade between India and Pakistan has shown enormous buoyancy and is expected to cross $1.5 billion in fiscal year 2006-07.

Exports to Pakistan in April-December (2006-07) stood at $980.33 million while imports were $247.48 million during same period, according to Indian official figures. A business delegation led by president of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry Muhammad Nasir Khan called on Indian Minister of Commerce & Industry Kamal Nath here, and expressed hope that economic ties between the two countries would strengthen in the near future. …

I’ve always thought if Pakistan-Hindustan became dependent on each other economically, all their frictions would fade away by themselves.

Anyway, would Pakistanis support the idea of Hindustan being Pakistan’s biggest trade partner?

^^ Yeah why not?

I think it should be a big priority to maximize trade between the countries in the Indian subcontinent... this would increase economic inter-dependency (which usually results in fewer military conflicts).. and more people-to-people contact which could decrease the usual 'hatred' towards the other.. in a few years I would actually like to see the region having a FREE TRADE AGREEMENT (on the lines of NAFTA)..

Pak and India will never become each other's biggeste trading partners. As it is in Asia, China and India are each other's biggest trading partners and their trade is expected to cross $20 billion soon. Long way to go for Pakistan and India.
