The Pak-India Peace Caravan titled ‘Aman Ke Badhte Qadam’ would leave from the shrine of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi Sunday (today) for Lahore to attend a joint meeting at the Wagah-Attari border on the eve of the Independence Day of Pakistan and India.
Peace activists and civil society members would participate in the meeting. This was stated by Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research Executive Director Karamat Ali and former Human Rights Commission of Pakistan co-chairperson Iqbal Haider at a joint press conference at Karachi Press Club on Saturday.
General Secretary, Pakistan Peace Coalition BM Kutty and General Secretary of PPC Karachi Adam Malik were also present on the occasion. **Karamat Ali said the peace caravan would also make donation appeals for flood victims and the collected amount would be handed over to the Edhi Foundation for distribution among the affectees. **
Talking about the peace caravan, Ali said like-minded friends in both India and Pakistan had made a number of initiatives to bring people of both the countries closer for lasting peace.
“We feel that if real peace and friendship has to be established and sustained between the two countries, the initiative will have to come from the people themselves,” he added. ppi
