Pakistani film festival begins in China from August 30
BEIJING: A week-long Pakistani film festival will begin in China from August 30 to further promote Sino-Pak friendship. A delegation including famous film stars Reema, and Zara Sheikh, producer Shahzad Rafiq, Managing Director NEFDEC Prince Abbas Khan and a senior official of Cultural Ministry Ismael Niazi will arrive in Beijing next week to attend the festival.
Popular Pakistani movies Nikkha, Ruksati and Gonghat will be screened in the local cinema houses with translation in the Chinese language, in Beijing and Guangzhou (Canton). The festival is being held after a gap about 15 years.
The festival has been sponsored by the Chinese Film Bureau with the cooperation of Pakistan Embassy in Beijing.
A senior official of the Bureau told APP that the festival was long awaited. Pakistani films, he added are in great demand in China and the people liked to watch the eastern culture and the life-style.
He recalled that last time two Pakistani films Mera Naam-e-Mohabat and Zendghi had proved very popular among the local people. He said the film industry of the two countries could produce a film in a joint venture for highlighting common cultural traditions and values.
Such a film, he believes could attract a great number of viewers and helps to bring the people of the two countries more closer to each other, he added. He appreciated the efforts of Pakistani Embassy in promoting the common objectives as required under the bilateral cultural exchange agreement.
